    I watched this video, and the other videos Shaddix has made journaling his WRX, 5 years ago for the first time. It got me hooked on WRX’s and cars at 42 years old. I bought a white 2021 WRX off the lot a little over 2 years ago. Nearly 70k miles later I have just begun the modification journey after keeping the car stock and studying what I like and dislike, and how I would like to express the qualities of the car that bring me the most joy and satisfaction. I refer back to these videos often.

    good video mate. Just one correction@ 9min. wheel nut spec of M12 x 1.25. 12 refers to the thickness of the wheelstud in mm - not the spacing between the bolts. The spacing between the bolts is the PCD - pitch circle diameter - which is 114.3 mm in the wrx's case. Also, for completeness, toe in gives more stability, toe out gives more turn-in/dartiness. In a car like a wrx having 0mm toe front and +1mm toe-in rear works well. Increasing front camber to 1.5-2deg makes a huge difference over oem which is close to 0.

  • @TheShaddix

    @TheShaddix

    5 жыл бұрын

    Really great info! I wish I could correct what I said about the bolt size, now that I look back I realize I knew that 12 stood for the bolt thickness as that's the same as the shifter size. Not sure why I thought it was the spacing. As far as the rest of the info, also super good! I agree that front camber totally helps, I currently have about -1.5 or so in the front and about the same in the rear. People like you should make videos to make people like me learn this before making videos, haha.

    Lug nut sizes are specified in two numbers. The first number is the diameter of the stud. The second number is the thread pitch. On metric studs, the thread pitch is the distance in milimeters between each thread. On standard lug nuts, the thread pitch is the number of threads per inch. Nice video btw. ✨

    I run Enkei Raijin 19x9.5 +35 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S 265/30/r19 tires, and I can say that even with my 1" drop on Swift Spec-R lowering springs there are no issues with rubbing against the fender or the fender liner. In fact, if I stand the wheels up next OEM wheels and tires (18x8.5 +35, 245/40r18), they stand at nearly the same height, with the OEM wheels being slightly TALLER. Thus, 19" wheels are a viable option for these cars, even if they are lowered. In my opinion, having a small tire wall (it's square, not stretched) with a large wheel face looks really nice. Obviously, it is not an ideal track setup, but it should not be ruled out as "making no sense" when it is working fantastically for me as a daily driver. Moreover, my wheel weight did not increase moving to the 19" Raijins because they are made using a "MAT" process, so my acceleration and handling were not negatively impacted. If anything, they got better. If you would like to see how 19" wheels fit with a mild drop, my Instagram is @wrx2.0. No hate intended, just saying that 19" wheels should NOT be ruled out. Good video and sick wrx. p.s. I do plan to purchase coil overs in the future, and I expect that I will need to roll my fenders a bit and adjust camber.

  • @hunterbawlz

    According to willtheyfit.com , the diameter of my 19" aftermarket wheel & tire setup is 11.6mm less than the OEM spec (New: 641.6mm. OEM: 653.2mm).

    @@hunterbawlz If it works for you, that's great! I still think 18" wheels look a ton better than 19's on these cars. Perfect example is when sti owners go from stock 19's to aftermarket 18's and the car just looks way better as a result. Not to mention that tires for 19's are the most expensive and hardest to find.

    I would normally tell you not to bother doing it yourself as the finish will never be that great and durable. It'll also smell unless you put a proper clearcoat over it. So, the trick is in the prep. Make sure to degrease them well and scuff them up with some harsh scotchbrite pad, then degrease again and wipe with a cheese cloth to remove lint. Do one rim at a time, not all 4 at once as it's a ton of work. Duplicolor is the best paint, so just pick your favorite color. For the clearcoat I recommend the duplicolor wheel matte clear, it does not smell at all after a few days. Spray it about 30 minutes after you spray the bronze base coat. You want about 3 coats of base and 2-3 coats of clear. You'll go through a ton of cans, so the total cost will be well over 100 bucks. Good luck! And make sure you don't spray them in your garage or near your car/house. Find some remote area somewhere and spray it there out in the open because it'll have a ton of overspray clouds that, if landed on your car, will be hard to remove.

    I would go with 255/35, not 40. You don't want to add sidewall height. 255/35 series is just a few mm shorter than 245/40, and 265/35 is the ideal choice for your setup. You'll be fine fitment-wise with that offset, but will need to do a mild roll on the fenders just to bring the fender lip up a bit so it doesn't cut the sidewall.

    Shaddix- We want to build our WRX for DD. We bought Apex Wheels (+38) that look great with the 265/35-18 tires you like. There is 4 1/4 inch space from tire to fender on the front and 4 inch space on the rear tire to fender.. We would like to lower the car WITHOUT rolling the fenders. How can one tell if the front wheels are going to rub with respect to the amount we lower the car when turning them? I think just springs alone only lower the car 1 inch. I understand the coilovers to be adjustable. The apex wheels are "helaflush" and look great! Please advise.

    Just by lowering it you gain camber as you already know. The LCA's are to add even more camber if you want, or to correct it (reduce). If this is too obvious, then a more in-depth answer is that I lowered the back less than the front and it gave me around -2 camber naturally.

    Thanks man! You'll have to roll fenders to run 265 tires, but that'll look really good. With no rolling you can do 255, but they might rub a tiny bit on bigger bumps. The black wheels I show in this video were 18x9.5 +34 with 255/35 tires. I had very little rubbing, so +38 should clear it for 255.

    TheShaddix appreciate your reply. Got the same lip as you after your last vid, forgot to mention! Regarding the tires, what are your thoughts on all seasons when you live in an area that gets very little snow in the winter? Should I get some or keep separate Summers and winters? • @TheShaddix

    @@deej628 all seasons should be fine. My pref is always get the cheapest tires. I've had all kinds and there is very little difference between very expensive and really cheap. Only at the limit you may see that difference. Good choice on the lip, I think it's the best option. I just got some sideskirt extensions, I'll make a video on that once they are on. As far as bronze on red, I wouldn't do it. It's like green wheels on a blue car. You don't want to have clashing colors - you want to complement the red instead with a more subdued, neutral finish. Best would be gunmetal or charcoal. I looked at a lot of pics of red and bronze and none look good... Red is a strong color, you chose it because of that. White is a neutral color so any wheel works on it for that reason. I had an orange m3 before and I went through a bunch of wheels on it, from matte black to gunmetal and then back to matte black. That's what looked best on it. Bronze would look just wrong on it and I really wanted bronze wheels as that's my favorite. At the end of the day, it's your personal call. But don't be surprised if you hate the look once they are installed.

    depends on the offset. If you go with +38, then you will have zero issues with a very mild fender roll or none at all. If you go with +34 and lower, you'll need a fender roll for sure. Anything below that and you're looking into roll and pull and all kinds of stuff that I had to do.

I am sure my car would do fine at the track with the way it sits, but I am also sure the same car but with a more technically correct setup would handle even better when thrown around turns. You always sacrifice something when you're going for a stanced look, no way around it really. The worst behind widebody cars with wheels sitting super far from the original offset. It's form over function in this case. Another thing is, 12mm is not a big deal and you'll never notice it. Safety isn't even a concern.
