Christopher Columbus was said to be looking for a shortcut to India by going the other way around the world instead of going all the way down and around. When he came to North America he thought that he had found a way to India, so naturally, he thought the people that he met were Indians from the country of India. So as time went on, the native inhabitants of North America, aka Native Americans were dubbed "Indians". Nowadays, however, the indigenous people of North America that were here before the European settlers were given the politically correct term of Native American. Although, the term "Indian" is still used today when referring to a Native American individual when it comes to legal identification or documents etc.

Sheldon had something which raj didn't: 1. He was tall 2. He was fair skinned These two, especially the second one matters a lot to Indians. The woman was certainly beautiful, but most of the Indians would consider her only average because of her skin colour. (No hate, I am an Indian)

No one takes Sheldon seriously! They're all different but, I like Sheldon the most because He wasn't like everybody else just as he story he quoted He was Different. It's why I didn't like how much they changed Him; because he made sense to me. If there wasn't a Sheldon in this series i wouldn't of bothered too watch it, because they'd just be like everybody else instead of individual's with their own unique perspective on life!

@kioko🏩 firstly, I'm not a girl. Secondly, you claim to have seen indians talk like that.. i am literally an indian. I am certain that she was asked to stress and accentuate her words in order for her to sound like the typical indian. I can assure you that nobody talks like lalita in india, raj's accent is much closer to the average Indian's accent. When i say nobody, i mean that people don't make conscious efforts to highlight the words in manner that is considered 'indian'. Lalita's accent is indian, but i am pretty sure that is not the way she speaks actually. My point is that she is faking the accent and it's not convincing.

Maybe that’s why it worked. He didn’t try, he was being sincere, and wasn’t trying to hit on her. In other words, he was under no pressure to impress her. Maybe the “pick-up line” about the lotus and the rose wouldn’t work, but his approach would. It worked because he was comfortable, sincere, and effortless. That’s my take away from it.

I'm asian, I remember when I was a kid, some people around me said they don't find Indians attractive because of their dark skin. But when I was in college, it was the first time I met Indian girls and for me all of them are really beautiful.

Actually people dont find Indians attractive because we are never trying to look attractive. As opposed to other cultures investing a lot in setting their hair, or having more manageable hair, keeping to limited colors in clothes so they always sync with the surroundings. Indians would just wear any random thing, not really groom a lot. All our credit points are internal. Like every Indian would have amazing handwriting. We are investing in some other type of beauty altogether. Stuff like that.

Not all indians are dark skinned, that's a stereotype. Your skin tone depends on where you come from in India. Northern indians will have lighter brown skin. P. S indians are asians too. Heck, the founder of buddhism (gautama buddha) was a hindu prince from nepal, and he went on to discover buddhism in Central India. How could you not consider us as asians is beyond me.

@@alejandrovillalba3143 I don't especially care for the series. I find it stupid and irritating. The handful of episodes I have seen were, for the most part, not worth my time. There are some individual scenes, like this one, that I do enjoy on KZread. When I first heard about the series I was quite looking forward to it. It seemed like this was something that was genuinely going to be aimed at me. I was quickly disappointed. However, in all honesty, if they had made the kind of science porn that I would have liked, the show probably would not have lasted twelve episodes, much less twelve seasons. The producers knew what they were doing and you can't argue with profit (that has to be one of the Rules of Acquisition).

I'm Indian. What do you mean 'MOST CLICHED' Indian name. And what are the comments saying it is 60's, 70's and 80's names? It is a very common name, especially in the South. Evoking the name sounds so tender and sensual. While in reality it invokes the fierce nature of the Goddess. Hence it is the title of the popular chant invoked by ladies - Lalita Sahasranamam (the thousand names of Lalita). Stupid commentors with Indian names. Panchali is a mythical character from mahabharat epic. Panchali meaning that she has 5 husbands. There's sad story with a silver lining to her story in mahabharat. She was lost to a game of chausar by her husbands and she was stripped off of her sari in the court of a king. Legend has it, she prayed to shri krishna bhagwan and he appeared mystically in the court and added more sari to her as she was being stripped off one by dushasan. In the end, there was plenty of sari left to cover panchali (or draupadi), her dignity saved because of shri krishna and dushasan got weary and tired of pulling the sari off of her and the king's court witnessed this miracle. This is a quite famous lore, one must watch at least once. It's on KZread if anybody would like to see, search draupadi chirharan.

I thought Sheldon was talking about some lore I didn't know off!!! I can't believe it was Panchali of all people. But if you don't mind me asking what was the story Sheldon was referring to?? Was that Hanuman?? But he isn't really a part of Mahabharata, is he?? (Forgive me for not reading the full text and stopping with the short picture stories)

@@heatherhollow6361 That's okay. Sheldon's story is a made up one, I suspect. Ramayan and Mahabharat are two very famous epics from India. Ramayan features Hanuman (Monkey God) and Mahabharat features Paanchaali/Draupadi. Ramayan is the story of Bhagwan (read Lord) Ram's exile, end of tyrant Raavan and also why Diwali (Festival of lights, victory of Good over evil) is celebrated and Mahabharat is the story of a war between families, Kaurav's and Pandav's.

I am an Indian, born and living in India since last 40 years, that is not real Indian accent, that is quite a fake 'put on' accent, raj's accent is really how Indians talk (at least the ones who have lived in cities) and if we talk about small villages then either they won't be able to speak continuous sentences in English or would have a worse accent, but not this kind of accent..

India is extremely huge. We have 22 official (as in govt paperwork official) languages and 1500 local languages (without a written script). All the people here can speak at least three languages. You will find people of different mother tounges living across the street.... sometime even in the same family. Its only logical that everyone develops a very specific accent to their English, because the Latin script used to pronounce English is really confusing. Everyone here in India has a unique English accent. The most popular one in the West, the "Apu accent", is actually a thick South Indian accent. Mumbai english sounds way different that Delhi english. What Raj speaks here is most probably a Mumbai-sh accent with a forced South Indian tone, in order to sound more stereotypical. Indians are outraged because Rajesh Kootharapally is said to be from New Delhi. While his name does say he is ethnically South Indian (FYI New Delhi is North India and Mumbai is right in the middle). Personally I dont find he was faking it. The actor is Kunal Nayyar, whose name suggests that he does belong to an ethnically South Indian family. So yah, his accent isn't fake. The demographics are.

@@poulomi__hari See, i find this very interesting. Because i worked at a Call Center and over time i've learned how to tell differently accented Indians. While they sound really similar to everyone else on our floor, i notice that it's very small details. There are those that can't stop themselves from using hard R's, some that only speak in soft R's and their D's almost sound like T's. The sometimes i heard those whose flow of how they talk is also different; there are those that like to go up and down in tone and whatever they end up with at the end is what they use, regardless of the type of sentence (sometimes gets really confusing when they ask a question in a lowering tone but was in a rising tone just a moment ago and state a sentence with a rising tone). I just don't know for sure where the accents are placed.

@@poulomi__hari To be honest, Americans do it with everywhere. English accents are quite varied but they somehow either make us cockney or overly posh Queen's English. They just Hollywood it up. Just finished watching Neil Patrick Harris in an English Drama and while his character was incredible, I can't really nail down the accent he was going for.
