I've never been more called out in my life, I had the idea 8 years ago to start a channel brining the audience along on the journey to becoming a working internationally touring musician. explaining each step of the process. opening the closed door meetings. breaking down the contracts, demystifying the music industry that confuses and gatekeeps EVERYONE.
Watching a video of Nate is like finding money in a pair of pants: you don't expect it and then it's awesome!

Baby goats and canning in Alaska!!’ Whoop! Whoop! Nate’s consultation with us was the pivotal point in the growth of our channel. Worth every tiny penny!! Every one! Thanks Nate. ❤❤
Extraordinary content and value in this video. Well done, Nate. This will be revisited as a resource throughout the year in view of the defined outcomes I am seeking. Thank you for freely giving and helping us in our KZread journey. Many Blessings...
'Why are you doing a niche in a way that you don't want to do?' Really hit home for me. After making almost an entire year of videos, I figured out that was exactly what I was doing! 😅 After a really hard pivot and removing a lot of videos from my channel, I'm so excited for the year ahead! Especially when I meet 4 out of the 5 items on this list! 😊 Excellent content as always, Nate!
I think you are one of the best KZreadr teacher on here. You have breaking down some of the most important aspect of KZread Niches, and specially the Up and Down on niches. Thank you for sharing your knowledges with us.
amazing content and tips as always 💯💯💯 I think one of the hardest parts is balancing content that you want to and can make on a consistent basis vs what your niche wants to see. thanks for being so transparent and realistic about KZread strategies!
No matter what video I watch, I always find I have so much to learn. Appreciate this Nate.
We just picked something we were passionate about and ran with it. Always easier when youre happy with the content regardless of the views because youve done what you can. Keep it up, great advice
An absolute splendid video to launch the new year Nate. Thanks for sharing 🙏
I've now watched several of your videos over the past 2 or 3 weeks & have learned loads from them as well as enjoyed your energy & presentation. You do a really great job. Thanks much for your time & sharing your knowledge & thoughts...always appreciated. I hit the subscribe button this time. 👍
Thank you for this video. We just started our channel a week ago and we can't believe how supportive the KZread community has been 😃😄 Don't give up on your channel. It doesn't matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop!
‘Get more specific with what you do for them’ this hit home! Great advice.
Nate as always I really appreciate your content! I think it is wonderful that your new channel is growing so fast I think you will be the biggest voice in the creator content niche very soon.
This is gold, Nate! Thanks for always breaking things down in such a visually appealing way. My niche is one of your top niches for 2024 and I can put checkmarks on all five circles at the end. Wishing everyone a successful 2024. May all your wishes come true and your channels take off! ✌
Happy New Year Nate! thanks for sharing the trends you're observing. Loved no 3 😅
The first 4 minutes of the video just proved me right - i do everything (mostly...like 90%) right, but i am in a huge niche and the time is what i need... along with a lot of patience of course... Thank you for the great work Nate and Happy New Year! 🤗
Thanks, @ThatNateBlack! THIS is the video I needed to see to take my channel to a new level! While my channel just features videos I've created for theatres, I've never thought about teaching those editing/business/marketing skills to others... until now! Thanks, Nate! Keep being awesome! I'm a big fan!
After 2 years of working on an episodic format for my gaming channel, I'm slowly starting to see the results of my work and people are starting to recognize me. I'm doing something then I always wanted to do on KZread and that was create my own niche so that I don't have to worry about being locked down into one area. It's definitely not easy, but as long as I keep putting in the practice and work I know it's going to work out in the long run.
I really enjoy your videos...they make me reflect on my youtube journey and what I want and my goals....thanks for the help and I hope you have a great 2024
I have been criticized by Tubers in the past for not wishing down! I refuse to do so! I am an outdoorsman at hart and the outdoors with all that involves it IS my niche. Canoeing, camping, exploring, fishing, back country cooking, the list goes on. I love what I'm doing and my growth is slow. Slower than I like it to be but I am pushing on. Thank you Nate for this video✌ Marc

I’m right with you!!! Niching down physically pains me! I have a podcast about my experiences with mental health and the things that keep me going and make me happy - it all falls under mental health! Creating and selling art, playing video games, going to concerts, hiking and being in nature…it all falls under how I manage my mental health. I know I’ll grow much slower but I have to be true to me.

Niching down is too restrictive for long term growth & stability (I think). I had another channel where I niched down & hated it. It was too restrictive & took the gum (FUN) dang typo 😂out of having a channel. Do what works for you & that’s different for each one of us.

Wow incredible video. Thanks for sharing Nate.
Pretty clinical analysis- I started as a hobby 5 months ago - a channel in my mother tongue Telugu - oh boy - i don’t have great number of followers but I can say I am getting better at presenting and I am enjoying it. That’s a great advice Nate
THIS. Last year I tried following the advice to make help content, tutorials and whatnot. But that is neither my interest, nor my talent 😂 Now that I make content I'm actually interested in, everything feels better - and my videos are performing way better too ❤
Excellent video! Hit the sweet spot. I thought it was so informative, I watched it twice! Thank you.
Happy New Year! I was JUST looking at my feed and wondering when you were going to post your next video!
Great as usual Nate. Happy New Year.
Very good, Nate. Lots of good input as usual.
Thanks Nate, I saw a video recently that said 'you are your niche' and for me I think that works as I'm a new KZreadr covering photography from my specialisms over 23 years: photo books, documentary photography, being weird. The problem is that niche is, well... niche! ha! I guess I could appeal to more people covering basic photography stuff but there's so much of that already on KZread. For me, my success is that maybe I reach out to a smaller more focused group who dig what I do and that I help them on their photo adventures! Again, thanks Nate. Its like having a friend whose into youtube!
Nate, it felt like you were talking to us specifically with this one! Great video, thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks Nate! I hope you are right about the Artist Niche. I started my (German) channel in October 2023 and 3 moths later I have 750+ subs and great comments and conversations! I do not only show my work, but try to educate and teach people to start their artistc journey. First time for me on camera but the process of making vids is such a great feeling. Cheers everyone and a happy and creative new year 🎉❤

This information is too much to be free. A big thanks to You🎉
I spent years niching down (genealogy niche) at first to gain the core audience and get a feel for the niche. Then once I felt I hit that cap, I started to niche up by gearing that content towards a broader audience. So I started with genealogy tutorials and lots of videos on specific genealogy subjects which would only interest the core genealogy audience, but once I built up that core I began to gear my videos towards more narrative stories that used genealogy to find the story. Even more, I started doing collabs with non genealogy youtubers (although similar education channels) to make videos about their ancestry which then opened up their audience to finding me. So I still get a lot of the core genealogy audience but the narrative style has allowed me to start sizing up and reach a much wider audience than before. It has also allowed me to create something a bit more unique within the genealogy niche.

Really awesome example. This is great!
Yes! Artist process product and personality! That’s exactly what I’m trying to do.
Thank You SO Much Dear Nate Black ! Namaste🙏
Loved this bit about niching up vs niching down, and subscribed!
I'm someone that is vegan, loves to run using Heart Rate (Running in zone2 and Maf Method), I'm also in the progress of losing 80 lbs by running and cutting out the junk food and sugar. My goal over the next few years is to train to run a 100 mile race. Oh , and I have a food addiction just to make it a bit harder to achieve my running goals..lol. So, I guess I have a Journey Channel. Yes, it's growing slowly , however I have a great audience that's come along for my journey. Thanks for your videos Nate. Keep doing what you do, they really do help. Happy New Year!

I have learned so much from all your videos. Subscribed. Thank you so much. Learning to give value to others just like you do.
Thank you, you reignited my love of learning to healthily and beautifully sing and sharing my journey in my music niche on KZread.
Great info!!! Just FYI I used your SEAS method recently and it worked great! Cheers 🍻
Reviewed this a while back and I want to say that this basic concept has really been top of mind ever since. I watch a lot more KZread now that I am a KZreadr and I look at everything now thinking about who the target audience is and how a successful channel has risen to the top. For storytelling channels, it’s not always production value, which is something we have identified as important for our channel. So far we’re not tempted to loosen our standards.
Love this, and I will likely mimic (steal?) your whiteboard use! Thanks for the super presentation and knowledge!
great video Nate! Thank you
THIS VIDEO is an eye opener for me! I was watching you for awhile and this one really resonated with me! I am pretty much having all the skills I need and a lot to share and yet I was choosing something that puts me away from what I actually want and who I am at the core. You gave me a lot of fruit of thoughts and inspiration to try to actually create something I will enjoy. Thank you Nate!
I’m finally able to apply for the first stage of monetization! Thanks Nate happy new year!
Dude. You're my favorite. Just sayin! Such incredible content presented in a way that I've not seen other KZread experts do before. Keep being awesome!
Aye, another great video! Happy new year and Thanks! I'm an art therapist planning videos around my courses. 2024 is looking great for mel 😁
Nice one Nate 🙂 I would have been in serious trouble throwing all those papers... Hope you survived after the video. Really good video and deep dive in different niches and ideas for all of us. Take Care everyone and have a lovely 2024 🙂
Incredible video, Nick! ❤
This guy is the best guy in this niche. He’s one of the only ones that makes me think.
I’ve been sharing my healing journey and I’ve been finding success in it, my channel isn’t blowing up but this let me know I’m on the right track 💕
Hmmm. I actually do fall right in the center of that. Thanks for another great video that's helpful and encouraging. My channel keeps exploding from applying what I learn here!!! Thank you Nate!
Thanks for the tips! I'm trying to grow my art channel with videos on lessons and discussions about what my journey and process looks like. So this video was very helpful to me; much appreciated!
There is no 2. Love it.
Good vid! Always very helpful
I'm so happy you said artist as #2 + the person because that's exactly what I'm going for ! 😄
Thanks for sharing!
Excellent content. Thank you!
thank you Nate you open my yeas more , im happy with what im doing and i have goals for it that is make liven doing what i love
Excellent as always... I guess I have to watch all your video's now..
Great video nate!
Hey Nate, I'm glad I found your channel. I was on YT for a while but I wasn't monetized so I gave up, but now I'm back and I want to try again. Your videos are helping a lot.
A channel that covers something I'm already doing, I'm passionate about, and I can do better than those who came before me in that niche? Dang! You just described the philosophy behind my channel!
Another great topic that resonates with me. I finally got my channel to grow by hitting on a very specific niche almost by accident. I started consistently making videos on a specific robot. The channel was growing, but very slowly. I was told there just aren't that many people interested in that specific robot. So I tried to expand by making my channel more general "maker", but all other videos flopped. However, when I started making a consistent video series on a retro computer, again they did well and the channel started to grow again. But growth is too slow and again I'm told that there is a very small audience for that specific computer. So if I niche down, i get growth but it's very slow. If I niche up the growth slows even more, and I think I'm confusing/annoying my current audience.
Thank you for your sharing
I would totally watch that person channel about van life traveling to all the musical theaters, that's a great idea!
YOOO. your niche list is GOOOSFRABA my brotha-man.
Excellent video and very helpful. Success is definitely a very relative word and means many different things to different people. But one thing I have learned is we can all have success if we just put our minds to it and actually have the drive and passion.
I started off watching this thinking, I can’t “pick” a niche because I’m already doing videos about what I enjoy! So, why would a I pick anything different? By the end of the video I’m feeling like I’ve got it right (for now at least). In a broad sense my channel is about art and crafts but watching this made me think that actually it’s more about my journey with various arty things. Sometimes I’m just sharing what I’ve done and sometimes showing in detail how to do it. My channel is growing at a slow and steady pace, but I’m getting some amazing comments and that makes me so happy!
Great suggestions on upcoming niches. I also like your idea to show your personality as an artist.
Your videos have been super helpful. I'm approaching my first 100 subs. Mostly drive by my shorts, but I've now started to produce the content that my channel was really intended for. Thanks for the content! Hopefully 100 soon and then 1000 for monetization!
Thanks Nate, very informative and fun. As a trail runner J can go general with running then niche into particular locations. The great outdoors being a common denominator
Thanks for putting words on my eternal creative debate !
My niche (Game Development) and the way I'm handling my channel fits in all you suggest here, which makes me way more confident in what I'm doing. As for niching up, my strategy is this: For the moment I make videos about an specific Game Engine, and I hit a subject which is kinda the automation you mentioned, and I'm already doing it better than others in the space. It has brought me huge success already. Fortunately Game Dev is a broad topic, so I can easily expand the channel as I go on, and put my hands on different topics too, like 3d Modeling, sound design, etc. I did make one of these videos and it did terribly. Because the space already has a lot of massive players. But when I become a known KZreadr, then I already have an audience for anything else I make, and that will make those other videos stand out too. This strategy is based on what you shared with us in ChannelMakers and in your new Channel.
I’m hearing from your video is to show the topic or niche from a vlogging/lifestyle format… I think that’s a great idea. I recently started vlogging on this channel and my audience are much more invested. Also my viewers as a percentage of subscribers is much better.
@KevinNordstrom
5 ай бұрын
Yes I think vlogging is definitely making a come back.
A good video as always Nate. That business niche suggestion is the way to go. One needs to earn the trust of prospective clients before they can comfortably convert into paying clients. Showcase your expertise and know how about the products and services you offer. Offer tutorials and business advise too beginners too.
that last few mins about "what's stopping you?" hit hard cus i said that to myself last year. well for me - it's credit card debt but im taking a bit of a risk and AM doing something about it to reach my dreams wish me luck for my YT growth this year
Fantastic! The final minute really made me sit up and say YES! I know I like what I do on KZread, but I know it's not quite right and there is another way I want to do it! (Which BTW I think I've already identified.) You're right, I need to get on and do it, a lot sooner! Thank you as always, and here ends my mothers day (UK) binge watch of Nate Black videos:)
The quality of your videos are so good wow
Definitely I am in the it makes me happy category!!!🤙
I would love to see a video on how to know if the niche/channel you decided to pursue is actually trending in the right direction. For example, are there signs in your analytics that would indicate that what you are doing is actually worth continuing or would it be best to drop that subject and pursue something different.
I'm glad you pointed an "existing" audience. That actually more key than I think most realize. For me I'm still going through the phase...What can I do? How long does it take and what's the level of effort? Do I like creating that content? I know several things I'm made have no audience (or audience of 1...me)...but something inside says, oh well I'm going to do it anyway. LOL Thanks, for the sharing the thoughts.
Loved this video!❤
I’m a new monetized content creator and this video is really opening my eyes and also teaching me new things to attract my audience, thank you!🙏🏿
Very very useful. Thank you🤗
Interesting. I have a lot of art videos going nowhere but you have sparked off an idea of now filming behind the scenes of how I set up etc. ❤
Very very good ... exactly what I had to do ...it works had to broaden my niche while still staying in it ..

Hi Nate, it's me the data nerd PhD student with blue hair that you met a while back. I finally made a channel and started publishing. Maybe I should put a video about automating one's marketing with machine learning on the list of stuff to make. But I'm happy to talk to you about your needs and see if we can come up with something. In any case, Happy 2024, everyone reading this. May we all get play buttons this year!
Great info as usual
Those last few seconds hit me HARD.
The way the like button highlighted when you said that! 😳🤩
Hi Nate!Your videos are very helpful and interesting!I am still learning how to make good quality videos though, especially when it comes to editing…but I so much enjoy playing the piano now ,though it takes time to make videos sound the way I want to…❤️
I think that a lot of niches are about an audience that were not there before. People want to learn new things so when you have a channel that is e.g. about learning how to start up a successful YT channel than those people might not even have a YT channel. They might even just see your banner and title saying "How to build a successful YT channel" and after that they become curious.
Bloody excellent!!!
I love creativity! ❤
