Switch glove weights when training for muscle shock, to change between a high weight/resistance glove and a lighter glove for speed and higher punch output training. I'll go from 10oz, 12oz,14oz and 16oz changing when I don't feel as challenged or it's time for another type of training. Training in one weight too long will seriously through you off for competition. But in sparring (unless preparing for competition), I use 16oz sparring gloves or 10oz AIBA.

I fight at 120lbs use 18oz winning on bag/pad work. 16oz flyboxing gloves sparring. just what I do. best of luck to all of you

he uses 18oz gloves cause the weight of the glove makes his punches faster and more powerful over time training with them cause it helps grow muscle. It like when you see a guy hitting a double end bag carrying small weights in his hands.

I tend to vary it. For sparring and bag work I use 14oz gloves. For mitt work I use 10oz pro competition gloves

I always prefer heavier gloves for training (drills, heavy bags, etc.). For my other pair of gloves its sparring, I use lighter gloves

I've been using 8 & 10 lately actually. And Im 166.....But Im only 5'6 I love how they feel. Adidas, btw.

There is are so many opinion on glove sizing. I find some people dont really put too much thought into it. Or their logic makes no sense. I see the following scenario frequently- a guy weighing 180 lbs wearing 16 oz gloves sparring against someone who is probably 145 lbs also wearing 16 oz gloves. This defenitely raised flags for me as a smaller guy. I find that an oz per lbs is the best way to calculate. We know there isnt 13 oz or 15 oz gloves so i follow this simple rule. Anyone up to 110 lbs and under use 10 oz gloves for training or sparring. 111-130 use 12 oz, 131-150 use 14 oz, 151 -170 16 oz and anyone over 170 should really be using 18 oz or heavier. I've had some muay thai classes where im technically sparring someone over 200 lbs wearing 16 oz gloves and i weigh 138 also wearing 16 oz gloves because the instructors either dont really care or dont put much thought into it. After all their not the ones getting hit. Anyway thats my 2 cents.

I am a beginner still looking for my first pair of glvoes. I think this video is simpler and clearer for me to understand but I also know that there are more reasons to choose different sizes no matter how I weight. Please advise me to choose the right size for me. Since each brand has different size formats, I will put my favorite brand (aesthetically) first to start off. - I would like to choose one of these brands: Title / Venum / Superare (new brand). - I am 130 lbs., 5’8”, 3.5” knuckle width, 8” circumference, total hand 7” length. - I don’t do sparring at all. I mostly use it for light/heavy bag work with my personal trainer and fitness. - My knuckles are still soft so i need a good pair of protective and fit gloves. - My price range is between $80 - $120. Please advise me to choose the right size! Any information will be helpful for starter like me! Thank you.

16oz hands down...saves your hands heavy bag work ...ive sparred at gyms were you have to have a 16oz glove no less....16oz best bang for your buck can use it for everything....buy a quality glove the first time around,youll know why once you hit a heavy bag with cheap gloves on along with that wrap your hands again quality hand wraps

I'm 5'10 and 115 lbs. I'm skinny out of myself but the weight I do have comes from muscle because I use 16 oz gloves and shadowbox with weights. When I use 10 oz gloves or something I have really fast hands because of it.

How about a beginner for Muay Thai- 200 lbs. I was thinking more of a 12oz with superior wrist support during my training sessions on the pads and bag while I'm learning technique and form. Problem is I"m not conditioned just yet was thinking the lighter gloves will help me keep correct form when fatigued.

ThePainTrain I agree, honestly it’s whatever gets you out in the ring. I use 16 oz and I’m a 5’5 106 pound female 😅

the padding thickness does not increase with oz. the oz is a representation of physical size. some manufacturers put weighted sheets in cuff to make a 12 oz weigh 14 oz. albeit its 12 oz in size. a manufacturer saves on leather costing this way.

I weigh 175/180 and I usually use 18oz gloves but yeah ur right i should use a 16 oz. but like u said, I like to use the heavier ounce to build speed and strength. good video!!

I never understood why weight matters. I started boxing when I was like 145 pounds and now I’m 180 and my hands are the same size. I have big hands regardless of my weight so what difference does it make with gloves?

It's more about preference I'm 135lbs and I used to use 16oz gloves and now I use 12 and 10oz sometimes so like just pick a glove that'll protect your hand and you should be good

16oz for me and I’m only a 5’5 106 pound female. 16oz will save your hands from heavy bags. Many gyms also require 16oz to Spar.

How many Oz they use in Professional Fight ??

I've been told regardless of weight to use for bag work/ drills and pads 10-12 oz. Sparring 16 oz for opponent safety. How can you generalize only on weight? Don't some light guys have the ability to punch harder than heavier guys? Don't they use 8-10 oz in fights? Honestly for me I prefer to use lighter weight gloves when working with the coach to avoid getting tired and loosing my technique and 16 oz when working on my own for strength and endurance.

Quick question: so my buddy is getting into boxing and he wants to compete in amateur fights. Looking to get him a high quality pair of sparring gloves and I wanted to pick your brain on my decision: Reyes, laced, 14oz. He's 5'8" around 175lbs right now but he'll drop weight if he wants to compete (no pro ambitions, but he does want to jump in the ring and see how far he can get). I think the 14oz would be a good fit because it will somewhat simulate the 10oz competition experience, but again, he's not a small guy so his sparring partners might not be happy. What do you think? Also do you agree with the laced? Thanks for your time.

Been boxing for 2 months now wearing 10oz gloves doing mainly pad works and sparring on occasions, i have started feeling pain in my knuckles towards the pinky and ring finger, Do you recommend 16oz gloves (i'm 116lbs and 5'10 )?? Since i'm lightweight i prefer to wear 14 or 16 oz gloves to protect my knuckles more (coz im more susceptible to injuries) plus with heavy gloves i can build my punch muscles. what do you guys think i should do?

in my humble opinion when hitting the heavy bag you supposed to feel the hit (but not get hurt) so you know when you hit it wrong, ask to try friends gloves before buying one. good luck
