Hi @vanessa joy' I just came across your video. It's awesome! It answered some of my wedding photography questions before. Though I still have some question here. I just wanted to know what camera mode do usually use in an evenT? Do you advise using Manual mode with Auto ISO?

You do almost exactly what Denis Reggie does and he has been giving me lots of little tid bits of advice here and there. Thing is, I'm not "rich enough" to afford a full frame so all I coud upgrade to was a Canon 77D and I still have the Canon 580EXII speedlight. So would ISO 3200 and F stop 3.5 or 4 get me where I need to go for about everything? I guess I would have to do a FEC in a larger room, right?

Can someone do a video or have any advice for a less than glamorous situation. I have photographed 2 events lately and the table decorations consisted of a basically some tall squiggly twigs and a few tea candles. I really struggled. If I got the vases, the table looked bare and if I got the tea candles the vase was cut off...

Ж flash freezes things letting you shoot with a slower shutter. Even with mixing ambient 160 handheld is fine, especially since tables and chairs don't move too fast. Good luck shooting!

Quick question Vanessa. By the way, LOVE your video. Do you use Auto Iso or do you choose your own ISO? and if so, how do you know what Iso to choose. Thanks in advance

I've done that in the past but I realized that I don't like doing it, and my clients don't either. Candles give a warm glow and if I eliminate that, it doesn't bring back the same warm ambiance of the wedding that they created.

Why not using flash power to light the scene instead of high ISO? I'm not being smart, this is actually a genuine question. Also, how do you figure the right ISO for different scenarios? Please help or direct me to the right source. 🙏 thanks

High ISO will retain the ambient light otherwise all the light will be from the flash. One of those instances where a high ISO is preferable to a lower one.

Don't be fooled by those that tell you that on camera flash is a bad thing. It's not. It's about how you use that on camera flash. If you notice she used it as a trigger for the other lights, never pointed it directed at the subject and used it to bounce light off the tent top or walls for a soft glowing, beautiful light.

Prophoto are over priced speedlights, unless you're sponsored to use them they make zero sense for work like this. Simple TTL speedlights, many of which have Hss, like Godox, do the exact same job for a fraction of the cost.

Except the build quality is garbage on the Godox, the color temp varies from shot to shot and they are not reliable for a pro... Profoto, on the other hand, last for years and years, have the most stable color temps in the business and offer better and more modifiers than most anyone. It's pretty simple, Godox is amateur and Profoto is ..well..pro. In the end it comes down to is it good enough or is it the best you can offer your clients.

we all buy what we want and feel comfortable using. I choose to invest in the Profoto System and have since got the A1's, B2's and B1x lights and couldnt be happier. Yes its an expensive system but I trust it without question. If Godox works for you great.

Now a days, most photographers focus on this more than the people. Getting images posted on prominent magazines? Photographer ego thing that magazines prey on so they can get free pictures to promote their business. This is the part of weddings I hate...it's all about the details rather than the people.

  • @VictorGPhoto

Just because it is a video focusing on details, doesn't mean that is all that she is focusing on at the wedding. The whole video is about details, why would it focus on shooting people?

actually my clients don't like that typically. I used to do that very often but to them it didn't look like I was capturing the ambiance in the room, or the warm uplighting/candles in this case. I switched to not doing it anymore and my clients were happier - and since they're paying me that's what I do :-)
