How to perform forced DPF regeneration Volvo V50

If you can't start DPF regeneration. Reset the adaption values. Turn the key to II position. Go to the ECM / Advanced / Reset the adaption values. It should complete successfully. Then go clear any errors. and try to perform a Combustion of soot particles, particle trap again.
When the car fails to perform the DPF regeneration on its own. This is the step that must be done to avoid further damage to DPF. In my case for Volvo V50, the car had the ECM-246B Vehicle condition incorrect for diesel particulate filter regeneration error message.
And after performing the forced DPF regeneration twice. It removed the error, probably the filter had too high levels of soot particles and was not able to initiate the cleaning by itself.
To perform the regeneration for Volvo you need a VIDA device. I bought mine on Aliexpress: www.aliexpress.com/item/32830...

    hello, I have a 2011 s40 too. km 180000. I use it constantly in the city. What do you recommend for precautionary purposes? will it work?

    Hi! Thank you for the tutorial. I saw some tutorials for other manufacturers like Opel, Ford, Mercedes, that owners could install a led indicator somewhere inside the car. When the regeneration process is starting, the LED indicator lights up. The back window's defrost circuit is turned on while the regeneration is taking place (Opel, Ford, Mercedes). Do you know if Volvo is using the same technique ? I would like to know when it's regenerating so I can wait until its finishing, because for a while I cannot access the motorway for long drives. Thank you.

    You also might notice the non zero fuel consumption when regen is in progress and you let off the accelerator. These slight hints might tell you that regen is 8n progress.

    Most probbably yes, since while in regen, the engine must be under load. To add more load, the ecu switches everything it can and isnt easily spoted (who would expect and notice defrosting mirrors or window heating on)

    Will holding the accelerator at 3,000 Revs for 10 minutes do the same thing? And then clear the codes after. It's just a matter of heat is it?

    No. The injection is different during the regeneration. The aim is to heat up filter.

    On the D5, the DPF pressure sensor must be re-adapted to the ECM after a forced regeneration and also the DPF soot counter must be reset.

    I'm about to do a regen on my volvo v70 mk3 awd 2009 soot filter full on dash .intermittent power ..sometime all the power is there but only in different periods ..overtaking is a no at moment. Have vida on laptop,vida cable ordered for next week .. hope it works ..

    Hi there Useful. But i have been told that the module has failed. I dont have access to one of the Vida devices so cant check myself. what does the module failing mean?

    Where did you get the scan tool to buy? My V50 1.6 D from 2012 suddenly lost power today. It is showing no error code, but I am guessing it may be something with the DPF. At least, I would like to get a first opinion with a scan tool before I go to a garage.

    @@andreastorpmark9773 The day I experienced this, the temeperature was -17°C. My guess is that my car's DPF was not heating up fast enough to efficiently burn the particles and that forced the car into a limp mode. What I did was to drive to force regeneration by driving at 60-80 km/h at gear 3, at some point, 4. I continued until the DPF had really heated up. This took about 20 minutes on the highway, then the problem disappeared.

    a bit confused - as the unit was rated at 12hpa but after the regen was at 17hpa ? - but yes i see the fault code had cleared

    Mine is register between 400 and 700hpa. This is basically a clogged soot trap correct? My turbo is very lazy. I'm thinking of removing it all together. What should the resistance be?

    @@TarantuloTV As I’ve actually sat and done a stationary regeneration with the car at 3k revs for about 12-15 minutes but the message didn’t go and the car is still sluggish. Going up to someone who has the software today as I presume that without that it won’t clear the warning message and reset.

    @@TarantuloTV It was clean. It just needed resetting. I’ve learnt that once the message comes up I should go for a drive straight away, this time I carried on using the car for short journeys for 3 days then it went into reduced power mode. Then even after burning off the soot it still stayed in that mode with the warning until we reset it with Vida

    Yup. This is the default practice. Usually car performs DPF cleaning while you are driving it, but if for multiple reasons it fails. Then you can perform this procedure when the car is stationery. Nothing is 100% safe - you must make sure you car has the cooling fluid top up, safe environment etc.
