    To my understanding those green and clear plastic "Fecalyzer" cups are made so that you can pop the green part out, put the fecal sample into the clear cup, add half the solution, then put the green part back in and mush the poo back and forth with it before snapping the green part back into place. This makes it so you do not need to use a strainer or really and materiel other than the cup and solution.

    Very clear and well explained, great job! I've never used the sedimentation technique for fecals, it would definitely be a much more reliable way of finding tapeworm eggs. Sometimes we know the pet has them, but we cant see them on the float because the eggs are too heavy, no matter how long the sample sits. I'll definitely have to try that one! On a side note, I love how clean and organized their clinic is in all of her videos. I wish our treatment area was this nice! Sometimes we get comfortable with having unnecessary clutter everywhere and we forget that we work in medical facilities.

    Girl I didn't know you were a vet tech. I'm currently working for the first time at idexx and wanted to look up more about parasitology. But I do this everyday. Very easy process. However we implement the fecal float method.

    Thank you for this very informative video. I’m on a fixed income and veterinary care cost have shot up to the moon like everything else we and our pets need. I need to save where I can and this might be one of the options I can actually do to accomplish that.

    Ok so first of all I love you and your videos. I was just wondering - so you started as a veterinary assistant correct? What did you do to get certified - was it your first four years of college? Also, what are you at your clinic right now? Are you a vet nurse? If so how can you do that without having finished college? I'm just really interested how you did this so I can know in the future. Also, I'm deciding between a vet and a vet tech/nurse, what are the different jobs vets and vet techs have? Thanks! Also I love this how to playlist - I watched your entire veterinary nursing playlist!

    I have a question ? Why are you using the sodium nitrate,? We usually used the distilled water. Is there any difference in use of sodium nitrate solution and distilled water.

  • @MusicianSpotlights

    @MusicianSpotlights

    The major, major difference is that solutions made for fecals have a different (don't remember if higher or lower) specific gravity than water, which helps make eggs float

    I’m doing this now in Parasitology lab. Every week we do them and I️ just cannot with that smell lol the ruminant poop is wayyyy better than dogs and cats that’s all I️ have to say haha I’ve only found one parasite and that was Toxocara canis one time lol my friend found a Ancylostoma yesterday and an adult worm we might have thought came from the environment and got into the poo more so than grew in the dog. But yeah I️ was excited for her. We checked some rescue kittens and. lot of people found Coccidia. Thank you for your videos. I️ love them! ❤️

    Yeah, the mostly meat diet of dogs and cats (along with treats and some people food) is what make it so rank smelling. Ruminant is mostly grain and grass feed, so it tends to smell a bit better.

    I really need advice!! I work in a animal hospital and bird clinic. I love my job and my coworker but our doctor is truly something else... I've been there 6 months and have seen over 20 people walk out and quit. We have a great hospital and staff but it's only one vet tech and the doctor. We can't even keep a file clerk or a receptionist longer than two weeks. Our last vet tech that was in for a working interview cried literally the in entire shift. It's always because of the doctor. I just need advice on how to deal with these kinds of doctors and is this normal? I'm a ct/animal assistant we have more cleaner techs than actual vet techs.. it's ridiculous.

    Ekkkk. That sounds like an awkward situation you are in. Some people are more difficult to work with than others - you just have to decide if it's worth it in the long run for you. You can either find a way to make it work with the doctor or find a new doctor to work for. There are tons of veterinary clinics out there and no clinic is exactly the same. You should have a work environment that is fun and easy to be in, we are at work more than we are at home - so spend your time in a place you enjoy. Hope I helped :)
