How to Perform a Pivot Transfer & Pivot Board Transfer in Home & Car

"Famous" Physical Therapists Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck demonstrate how to transfer someone who may be weak, had a stroke, had a knee replacement, etc. from one surface to another- i.e. bed to wheelchair and reverse or car seat to wheelchair and reverse. Also demonstrate use of a pivot board.

I use a plastic table cloth folded in half, slick sides out, flannel inside, for my hubby to scoot on instead of a plastic bag. Love you guys.

Thanks so much for this video! Great information presented clearly. My mom has dementia and has just stopped being able to walk almost at all over the last couple weeks. It’s like her brain can’t make her feet work anymore. She makes us push her on her walker seat. Almost dropped her a couple of times this week getting her in/out of the car to and from dialysis. She’s suddenly lost the ability to pivot - won’t move her feet at all. I’m ordering a disc today and looking into lightweight transport chair. I think the disc will be a lifesaver! Thanks, again, guys!💙

I've been eyeing the Multi-Lift and the Milford Person Lift. The Milford one starts at about 5K. Waiting for them to tell me if they accept insurance but I have a feeling they don't. Wish handicap stuff was a lot cheaper for those indeed but we live in a profit making world who doesn't cater to the elderly and handicap. But good luck with your mom. Mine has Dementia and Parkinson's and it's a challenge to take care of someone who can no longer do anything for themselves and now want others to do everything for them, and I mean everything. LOL

Thanks for this video, I learned a lot. Went staight to Amazon for Pivot Disc and belt. Several belts to choose from with soft padding and multiple grabbing handles. Note: Lots of SafetySure brand discs like you had in your video, but most of that brand did not have stellar ratings. Sammons Preston brand had good rating, and better price than a lot of the others. Thanks again. Can't wait to get stuff and try it out with Mom at Assisted Living.

For car transfer, my wife has a progressive brain disease (PSP), and she is only 4' 11" (shorter than Bob). She also experiences severe gait freezing, and cannot move her legs, or stand without assistance. Any suggestions about how to get her bottom up to the 27.25" high seat of my 2019 CR-V? She used to be able to step into the car with help, and I could muscle her up to the slide sheet on the car seat, but since her symptoms have only recently progressed to this point, it's a new experience for us.

Which side of the car should a left hemiplegic enter a car? Is it correct to enter at the left door left so he can grab the hand rail on top of her head using her sound right hand? This is for my sis-in-law by the way. Thanks a lot in advance!
