i have a question regarding CD test. we have an ELE international device and our cell consist of the following valves from left to right. (Lower- Upper) which are bridge and lateral Upper and lower. the cell pressure sigma 3 is applied through the lateral valve. now my question is during applying the axial load for consolidated drained test do i need to have the Cell valve closed or open? meaning should i have 'Lateral valve open, Upper open, Lower open) or (Lateral valve close, Upper open, Lower open). Thank you

Good question I believe it should be closed so the pressure does not escape. If I wrong please correct I'm doing it by logic.

+Ana Henriquez The valve should be open, so that sigma 3 remains at the desired stress, provided by the equipment

Ok thanks, would the cell fail or break if left closed?

+Bijan Eskandari Zadeh thank you very much. I had a cell that failed in 20 seconds today. I had the psi for an average of 40,speed was at. 50 inches per minute. Had the valve closed was explaining something about pressure. Then I hear a pop the middle part of the cell that deformes the sample broke and it also broke the ring and dails. I don't know what went wrong done it many times the only thing was that the cell was new all the screws in the broke.

it would have been much better if you had focused on the principle of test not on how this specific model of apparatus is operated. I got bored by minute 10 and now I m closing it.
