Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves kzread.infoUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.

Love the bone Marketplace find, reverse directions fir books and love the spray painted candleholders.

Happy Friday, Beau! My days have recently been occupied by my husband and I adopting two senior Shih Tzu who are needing a lot of attention since one of their previous owners passed away. The widow needed someone to care for them and we volunteered. We love dogs and have missed having them in our home. We couldn’t have dogs while living overseas but now we are settled down and more stable. Consequently, I haven’t had much time to look at KZread and YOU especially. But, they are resting right now so I am taking some time to tune in to your latest offering. I LOVE how you styled your bookcase in each scenario so can’t make a choice right now but beautifully done. My husband has over 2k books so our shelves are filled with books but I have managed to add a piece of decor in or on top to add some interest. I need you to do ours! Your BEST video!! Styling shelves is so difficult for most people. This 3 part tutorial was so good because you gave us options and guidelines for balance, interest and movement. Love the zig zag concept, the importance of books, vertically and as risers, contrast, and matte vs the sparkle of glass and crystal. Thank you, Bonnie! It really can be mentally taxing, I myself get intimidated at times - but I have to remind others (and myself) that the goal is to have fun. There are rules worthy considering, yes - but at the end of the day, it’s what we create in our own spaces that we have to live with and love. So if it feels right, I say do it 🙌🏼 I just like to share my process in hopes of inspiring others or giving viewers that alternative perspective that may have previously gone unnoticed. Thank you for look #3! While the first two are very sleek, the third looks much more conducive to a family home.

I love what you did with your shelves! You really do such a nice job with balance and incorporate such interesting pieces. So often I see shelves that appear crowded and almost "heavy", like the shelf is about to crash in on itself. You have this great sense of using that negative space, so that my eye can enjoy each item, and not get stuck staring at something that doesn't fit in or conform. You also do a great job with "lines". There's vertical and horizontal, and then an interesting shape either with a monkey, or bust or flower. I also enjoy how you keep your colors simple. The black is grounding everything when it needs to and the white really brightens everyting. Good job!!!!! I took a screen shot to study for my next shelf project!

I love this analysis, Christine! I’m no professional, but I definitely try to keep scale, dimension, white (negative) space, and composition in mind when I vignette a space. It can take me hours to get it “just right” and even then, it’s more an intuitive feeling that lets me know I’m done ✔️ so glad you enjoyed these three looks! Really liked ALL the arrangements but was particularly taken with the one with color! You stepped out of your comfort zone to create a lovely vignette! I am partial to the first 2, but loved seeing something different with all of the color in the third display (and the way you incorporated natural elements and pockets of color kept it from feeling out of place). Thank you, Mark! I too, prefer the first two ☺️ thought it would be fun to provide a versatile option and step outside of my norm and show just a bit of color to shake things up a bit! Vignetting can be intimidating and it takes quite a while to figure out what works together. As you’ve observed, I find it helpful to place the decorative objects first and then go back in with books to add height and dimension - also, I don’t know why but so many people don’t include books in their bookshelf styling and it leaves me perplexed 😆

I enjoy exploring others style and design preferences. I especially appreciate your comment that was we need to follow our own style, not worry abt how others may think. I've never preferred the blk and wht restrictions of color. I tend to be more eclectic and bohemian in my style. But its fun to see what you like I'll keep watching

My favorite is #2, 2nd favorite is #3 and your right, #2 suits you.

Really loving the 2nd one. Reminds me of mine.😉I collect white milk glass too & was blown away w some of the pieces I've found. They def don't look like typical mg, especially my art deco pieces. Since my bookcases are white & most of my items are too, I used this gorgeous black fabric w lg white geometric design to cover the back. I just cut to size, used some spray fabric starch & applied. It really makes my mg, clear glass & silver pieces pop!

There are treasures waiting there, and though I wish more people were open to shopping there, I also appreciate keeping my treasure shopping competition to a minimum. Haha. I have used your past video where you spray painted some vessels matte black as inspiration, and so far have amassed quite a collection. I also have the paint, and now I just need to DO IT, but every time I intend to, it seems to rain outside. Well, the intention is there, and it will get done. Hello my friend! Nice to have the weekend off I’m sure - it’s been wild out there lately 😆 I really enjoy a Goodwill trip especially when I don’t walk away empty handed! I know it may be intimidating and looked down upon, but I have scored incredible finds and not one broke the bank. So glad to hear you’re gearing up for your project - I too, have that dilemma with the rain! I try to paint outside in the open air and the humidity always kills the vibe. Happy thrifting ❤️

GM Beau and oh my goodness where have you been all my life 😂! In just a few minutes you’ve taught me how to unify, balance & minimally style my bookshelves, the vibrant red pages really made your 1st decor display pop. The 2nd crystal display is glamgorgeous and is totally my style. The 3rd display is “She ready” the hues are beautiful, I started clapping & say Bravissimo Beau when I saw Co Co Chanel book I absolutely love her, my famous quotes from her are “ Simplicity is the keynote of all true Elegance” & Fashion fades, only style remains the same. Thanks Beau for going above and beyond the call of duty to teach and show those of us who did not know how to style a bookshelf I am so grateful to you. God bless you and I await until next time. My goal with this video was not only to show how versatile a space could be, but that anyone watching could do as much and it doesn’t have to be an expensive feat. 95% of what I own is from HomeGoods and recently I’ve been finding so many incredible home decor accents from secondhand thrift stores like Goodwill for pennies! I absolutely adore the quote you’ve shared, it’s too true. Coco was a brilliant woman and so ahead of her time. That was really my goal here - I completely destroyed my apartment while scouring/shopping all of my own finds in different areas around my space to create these looks 😆 but that’s what made it fantastic! To create a beautiful vignette does not require money, it’s all in the placement, composition, and may require just a bit of trial and error to get it right! I’m so glad you enjoyed this video my friend 🙏🏼✨

I have this exact built in shelf in my foyer, same trim and size . And what's funny is I wanted to do mine all in black and white. lol I do have coffee books too but mine are about the Royals or great American homes and castles. Thanks for showing how I can incorporate it into my space. Yours looks lovely.
