I have pumped gas for over 20 years, but it dawned on me that i have ALWAYS gone into the store to pay. This actually taught me that if I wanna pay with my credit card at the pump, I have to insert it BEFORE i pump, not after. Thanks. :)

Hi Blair, I am so happy this helped you! We don't have letter options at the pump, so I am not sure how that would work for you. It might just allow it to go through without you having to put in anything. That would be convenient! You can always go into the store (and there is always one the runs the pumps) and the cashier can run it for you. They want to make money so they will take your card no matter where it is from! Don't worry, there is always someone around to help you!

@@MASTERTHEMEME Follow the picture next to the card reader. It will show you where the black strip needs to be oriented to read the card properly. If all else fails, turn the card around until it works! There are only 4 ways you can try it, lol!

I have a couple of questions. If you pay with debit does it charge you based on what you want ( $10,$20 ) worth ? or automatically until its full ? Same with credit. You slide in the card enter pin or zip. But how much gas is decided that part wasn't mentioned .

It will charge what you want. If you want a full tank, it will shut off automatically when the tank is full. If you want a specific amount, you have to watch the dollar amount and manually stop pumping when you reach that amount. It is usually going pretty fast and you might not get it to (say) $10 exactly. It will be $10.01, or some sort of change. But you can get it exactly or pretty close. This is for both debit and/or credit.

@@HowToLifeDrLJ nozzle is in the tank. Lever is locked lets say becauae you don't want to stand there holding it. You view the the display and your okay with spending $19. The machine is running up at $18.01 how do you stop the gas nozzle from inputting anymore gas ? And if you select from the peripheral options that you would like a full tank lets say you have a car that holds 13 gallons and your at 7 gallon left so you only need gallons but select full tank. Does it overfill your gas tank in your vehicle ? Or is there some type of sensor where it sence when the tank is full ? And if so how reliable is the technology to be able to accurately sence when the tank is full. This is gasoline so I take this very seriously.

@@haley-and_gaming6371 You just press the trigger up and it will unlock it manually. The pump is designed to shut off automatically when it senses the car's tank is full. They also take that very seriously so I believe it is something that has to be regularly checked and maintained. HOWEVER, you will see signs that ask you to make sure you are checking that the pump doesn't overflow. And it is true, it is ultimately the person pumping the gas to make sure it doesn't spillover. But I will tell you this: in 35 years of pumping gas only once the pump didn't shut off. The guy pumping my gas locked the nozzle and walked away. If he had been standing by he could have caught it quicker. Anyway, don't be afraid, just be standing close by. And if a pump doesn't shut off and the gas spills over, tell management so they can have that pump serviced. Don't worry, you will be okay!

I always pay inside with the card and sometimes pick up candy and some milk at the same time, a couple of things I need ... it's convenient. plus there have been cases of scammers putting devices on gas pumps outside to steal your card info, your pin number, etc. safer and more convenient for me to go inside. you just tell them what you want, $50 of gas on pump #3 for example, they charge your card and then you go outside to your car and you follow the instructions on the screen, get the nozzle off the hook, select the kind of gas you want and then get it done, pumping it ... the pump shuts off automatically once you have reached the prepaid amount. :-)

Okay, now that we know how to use a credit card for ⛽,we to apply/get a card that gets us 3%-5% cash back on that gas.🎉👍🎉 Edit: It's been pointed out to me that the credit card price for gas is usually/always about 10cents higher. So you probably won't see any savings 😒.

How do you enter the amount of gas you want to pump? that I do not understand! for example, if you want to pump $20, do you enter your card first, than start pumping and try to stop exactly at $20? or does it give you an option and ask you first how much money on gas did you want to pump?

Yes, to your first question. At the pump, if you want say $20, you will put in your card, then you will have to watch the dollar amount and stop it when you reached that amount. It may go over a few cents because it is hard to stop it at the exact amount so be prepared for that if you are OCD like me. Good question!

Sorry but I haven’t ever been in US but I will visit it by the next week , I am from Dubai, but when you insert your card do choose specific amount of many from the machine like if I want to pay gas for 40 today or do you have to wait an looking for the screen in the machine when it reaches to 40 ? Does the machine accept MasterCard? Thank you

When paying with your card outside at the pump, you have to watch it if you want a specific amount. You will release the pump trigger when you reach your amount. You can go into the gas station, give them your card, and tell them how much want and at which pump number. Only they can set it for an exact amount. And, yes, they will accept Mastercard. Enjoy your trip here!

Hi Alex! You will have to watch the price on the pump, and stop it when you want. If you want the pump to stop at a certain dollar amount, you will have to go inside and pay the cashier the exact amount. That's the only way I know the have the pump stop at a certain price.

@@alexthai2456 I f you want to pay $20 at the pump using your credit card, you will have to watch the price and stop pumping when it is at or close to the amount you want. You cannot program the machine to stop at $20 automatically. They can only do that for you from inside. Just pay attention to the price while your are pumping the gas, and you can control when to stop it.

It’s weird that we need videos for everything but here we are. You think this would be simple but I can’t get Sheetz stations to accept my credit card. The pump thinks it’s a debit card and asks for my PIN number.

Hi Steven. The first question I have for you, is your card actually a credit card? Debit cards that are attached to your bank account will often have a Visa or MC symbol on them and you can use them as a credit card (without typing in your PIN), but the charge is actually debited directly from your account at that time. In my experience, when I use my credit card the pump recognizes it as such and will ask me not to remove my card as it processes it. When I use my debit card, I insert it and remove it right away and it immediately asks for my PIN. Although I am not familiar with this chain of gas stations, all the pumps I have used in many different states have worked as I described and I have not run into the problem you are experiencing. I would check your card first, and if it is an actual credit card, ask the folks inside the station why that is happening to you. Please let us know what the answer is!

This is a really excellent question! I didn't know the answer so I did a little research. There is not much information about it but here are three things you can try that others have said work for them: 1. for zip code type in 00000. A few people said that worked for them. 2. You can always go inside and give them your card and tell them the dollar amount you want. If the tank is full before you reach the amount you authorized, the difference is automatically put back on your card. If you are nervous, you can go back in and have them give you a receipt showing that. 3. I think your best bet is to contact your credit card company and tell them you will be in the US and want to pay at the pump with your card. Ask them how to get around the zip code requirement. I saw online the Mastercard states that if you put the first 3 numbers of your own postal code followed by 2 zeros that will work. But call and speak to someone there to find out what you need to do for that specific card. Good luck and let us know how it went!

Most pump screens will ask if you want a receipt. Select 'yes' if you want one. If not, select 'no' or do nothing and you won't get one. Even if someone found your receipt, there is no information on it that would allow them to pump gas on your card. So you don't have to worry about that. It is very safe these days. This was a great question!

dont use the fuel lock, some older cars the gas wont auto shut off and your have a big mess/fire

As the tank is filling, you will see on the pump the amount of money and the number of gallons being pumped in. It will stop when the tank is full, but if you only want to put in, say $20, then you will watch the pump and stop it manually when it gets to the dollar amount you want.

It will fill until you stop it. If you only want to put in, say $15, then you will watch the $ amount and stop it close to that amount. Sometimes, you will get it exactly, but often it will go over or under a few cents. If you only want a certain amount, keep your hand on the trigger and your eye on the dollar amount so it won't go over.

well explained. If you would like to pay in cash, how am i supposed to know how much money it costs to fill up my tank? As an example..I have no idea how much it costs. I give them $50. When i'm gone pumping, It shows that I pumped 43.30. Is it common to go back and inside and ask for your change? I don't want to look silly. You simply ask for your change on pump 3? Thanks .. :)

If you paid cash and you didn't use all of it, then yes, you will go back in to get your change. That is correct. If you paid the cashier with a credit card, then the amount will be refunded to your card. It should be, but I myself will go back in to make sure. To answer your question about how are you supposed to know how much money it will take to fill your tank, it's a guess. If you know how many gallons your tank holds, you can multiple that number by the cost per gallon of gas to ballpark it.

Yes, I pay cash for gas and I go back for change, although I've gotten really good at guessing how much I need (because I really hate having to go back inside! Lol). It starts with knowing the capacity of your gas tank for your vehicle. Lately, I've been getting it just under the auto shut-off/full tank amount with the pre-paid amount I give the cashier. You will learn your car as well!

Once you have replaced the nozzle, you will be asked it you would like a receipt. Hit 'YES' if you do, and it will print one out for you.

Yes, if that is how yours opens. You just push the cover in and it will open. Some have a lever on the floor on the driver's side that you have to lift. Some you just pull open. Sometimes there is a key you need to use, BUT, the car has to be unlocked or the gas cover won't open.

Does your card info clear from the pump screen after you finished pumping gas?

Your card info is never displayed on the screen. But as soon as you replace the nozzle, your card will not be charged anymore. You can get a receipt if you would like, and then you will know for sure what you were charged. Hope this helps.

Yes, it will stop by itself. There is a sensor that makes it shut off when it is full. This is something that is regularly maintained by the station. But you still want to stand by in case it doesn't. I will tell you that once in my 30 years of driving, it did not shut off properly and gas overflowed. But I was there to manually shut it off and then told the people inside. But really, you don't have to worry about it. Just be aware.

Hi Blake. No, if you used your card to pay at the pump, you're done as soon as you replace the pump handle. Unless there is some sort of problem (it doesn't take your card, gas isn't releasing, etc) there is no need to go inside. Convenient, isn't it? Great job!

If you are using the locking mechanism, it will stop automatically when the tank is full. If you are pressing the trigger yourself, then when you let go it will stop.

Me, lol. I brought my gas can to be filled, in NJ, and the gas man put my cc into the machine and laid the nozzle on the ground and said "Here you go" and I filled up my can. What I don't know is what button he pressed after asking me if I wanted a receipt. Our pumps are not fancy like the ones in this video, the cc stays in the pump the entire time.

@@DAS-Videos the part you didn't see is that the pump will ask on the screen if you would like a receipt or not. You have to be watching the screen then just press yes or no. We also have the kind of pump where your card stays in the whole time. It will work the same way. You just need to watch the screen for the prompts and select your answers. You did great!!
