After reading your comments I wanted to cover the spacing on the overhead attack. To start with, whilst you are getting a feel for it. Always go further away and work your way closer, so you don't die whilst learning. Study my position in the video as it's hard to describe and you will need to get a feel for it. If you feel like you are too far, start holding your parry earlier to slow your movement down. If you feel like you are too close, delay your parry to maximise speed. If you feel like you are super close, jump and then parry to maximise the distance you cover. Thanks for all the comments and feedback guys. Good luck out there!

nah fr, the spacing required is tight lol, took me like 20 straight tries but I finally did it. big tip, record yourself, make sure you have the same exact spacing as shown in the video.

You have to parry, if you just dodge the splash aoe can hit you sometimes

What armor set do you recomend?

I frequently get hit by the AOE dmg of the overhead swing. Is that a spacing issue, and if so, how do I avoid it? Do you usually aim for a specific movespeed when killing the troll or can you do it in full plate?

Nvm, I solved it. I was holding just S to kite away from the overhead swing which made me to slow with my gear to get away from it reliably. I guess the answer to my question is: It depends on what movespeed you have. If you are having the same problem as me, I would recommend to spam the troll with the same gear-set until you get the timing down. Also, if you run a very fast kit, or naked, you instead need to be wary to not run away too far, and not be able to parry the attack.

For those of you still getting hit by the AOE damage from the overhead, that means you are too close to the center of the club. (Might get boinked on the tip of your head as well). Stand a little to the left of the club impact.

Yeah, problem is getting to the left fast enough. I dunno what the movement speed people run with, but I'm doing it exactly like the video and still taking splash.

Dude, I'm doing something wrong, I've seen your video several times and tried to run it but it's always very different from what you show. When I stay at the distance you show in the video he screams, if I get too close I can't dodge his first hit like you show, and he always does a different attack that I can't parry. I'll try more often :(

You can do this with any squire set up, although in full plate you will need to sprint on the opener. I personally use: Armet, light gauntlets, adventurer tunic, plate pants + darkleaf boots.

No, you will still take splash damage if you are too close. With practice, the spacing becomes very easy to get down. If you take a little splash whilst learning, it's not the end of the world.

Its because he is hitting with right click after blocking, which activates the riposte (more damage)

Like @fernandomartin6805 said, you have to right click again after the parry. The only time it's really viable to left click out of a parry is when you fight the wendigo.

Make sure you push in right after his low swipe and keep going left. You'll get used to it with a bit of practice.

You can influence the overhead slam by being close to the troll. It takes a bit of practice to get a feel for it.

This was not my cleanest run by a long shot, but it included all of his moves. Can do it in 45-60 seconds

This was in normal lobby, so the gear is very minimal, you can do this naked with any class. Troll is one of the only bosses where getting hit one time is almost certain death, so you just gotta learn the attack pattern and your positioning.
