I see that you sprayed the base trim. Always good to do that if you can. Most of the time, you don't have the ideal circumstances for it though. You rarely have the luxury of rooms being empty.

Minor details that really do have a purpose, I’ve had the 18” roller fall off the frame before, but never when using this method 🤙🏼

The only thing I'll add is to go back and layout in one direction. With deeper colors(I paint for a photography studio) you will/could see vertical striations because of the direction of the stiple(up drag or down) left by the nap of the roller.. it's more pronounced when painters put too thick of a coat or use too long of a nap roller just to get the job done faster.. that last mention exaggerates how stipple can alter very small shadows and you can see the change in direction.. flat paint not noticeable so much.. sheens are a different story. Other than that this dude has good info.. 👊

Really like the way you set up that pan with plastic. I'm going to share that and require it with my men. We paint and sand and finish floors. We always have that long plastic around

18 inch awesome rollers I'll on use between 12 to 18 inch only now. I never use 9 inch roller or frame unless detailing or touching. I'll always use 4 to 6 inch for very small or awkward areas

If you need to do more cut in work your loosing time using the 18. I can paint faster with a 9 they are more versatile. I use a 9 and a 3.5 inch straight cut wall brush. all that clean up time and room used in your truck is costing you.

Hi. I see that you never cut in first. Do you roll the walls and on the second coat you cut in and then roll into the cut?

  • @dubbled3063

Generally we always cut before rolling, especially on the final coat… but in this case we rolled before cut on the first coat.

I'm just starting to paint for the first time, and I have old walls...70s...not smooth but abour 10 million little nubbies per wall...lol Question is, what nap of roller should I go with? 1/2? Ive got very long walls so i thought 18 inch would be best...Thank you! You make it look easy.

If you do any patch work on old walls that have a heavy texture from years of painting, those spots will stand out unless you go with a heavier texture roller like 3/4 inches or bigger depending on how much texture you are working with. A 1/2 inch roller is better if you are trying to keep a smaller texture and won’t do you much justice in your situation. I would definitely suggest an 18 inch roller in most situations.

@@dubbled3063 It's not a texture from painting, it's tiny little bumps that are in the wall itself. They are very small like glandular bumps in the wall board. Idk if your familiar. At least I think that's correct. I just had one small area where I had a patch a section. All I'm looking for is a decent coverage, not a perfect job.

omg no lmao xD. My boss would literally shoot me if i wasted plastic on that or lazily strained paint directly into the pan. Is running water hard to come by in your neck of the woods? Its very easy to spin rollers out Dx. Just use your pan as a shield

Yeah we do that when it’s not below zero here... but usually just save the roller and bring back to the shop for the low end employees to clean on a rainy day. Also a lot of our customers don’t want us cleaning up in their yard. Plus most of the time the color is used on a daily basis, we continue to keep the map from drying out by sealing with plastic, and the plastic is just thin mil painters plastic so the little we used here amounts to pennies on the dollar.

Funny you mention Georgia... I actually first started painting in early 2000’s in south west Georgia and is where I learned to spin rollers out like you talking about. We did things all by hand brushing then and used mainly oil based on trim!!

This is true, which I do mention in the beginning, but on the fly 9 times out of 10 most painters would have plastic on hand rather than liners.
