How to Paint Rocky Coastline pastel tutorial
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Learn how to paint rocky coastline with pastels - the realistic rocks and crashing waves. See how to paint the sea foam and use it as a compositional device to create more depth in your painting. Painting the ocean means painting moving water, see how to bring more energy in your seascapes, make them more realistic.
The demo is done on non sanded toned paper, but you can easily substitute it with toned sanded paper, if you prefer not to be limited when you are layering your pastel colors.

Hi Kathy! It absolutely helps to watch how other artists work, or even to look at their work. I’m doing it all the time, so much inspiration comes from others 😁

How beautifully you create magic with your hands!! The entire scene comes alive in front of your eyes... I would love to know which non sanded paper you have used here..

Thank you! It’s either Canson or something very similar would be fine. It’s a bit more limiting as far as how many layers you can get on it, but it’s a good exercise 😊
Thanks so much for your inspiring videos, Lana. Greetings from Australia! ❤🇦🇺

Beautiful! It‘s so amazing what you create on non sanded surfaces…. May I ask what kind of blue you are using for the wet rocks? Is it ultramarine or even more purplish?

I have the same question. I desperately need a such bright blue colour for shadows and I cannot find it. Your works inspire me to do something similar but I have to learn more. Thank you for opportunity to see your master class one more time.

Thanks! I don’t remember which brand it would be, but it feels like Sennelier, that’s the final blue, quite chromatic. It’s closer to ultramarine. The darker one that I used under that is more purple. I don’t know if that helps, it’s hard to tell the exact color info once the wrappers are gone and the stick is worn out 😂

Thanks Tanya! I'm glad my videos help. By the way, you don't really need a bright chromatic blue for the shadows, it might stand out too much in that area.

Thank you! Well I find it hard to find the right value for the shadows regardless the colour. 🙈 the blue looks stunning though
