Thank you for watching, note that sanding is optional. If this video has helped you leave a comment or put a like. Below are links to Amazon for some of the materiel I used during this project. Deglosser: amzn.to/2ROjWHM TSP cleaner: amzn.to/34JhHuN Water based clear coat: amzn.to/3ahMjoj Sanding block: amzn.to/3bjj2Li Ofcourse you will need a stain blocking primer and good trim, cabinet paint from your local store. Note that sanding is optional but I strongly recommend going over lightly with a sanding block, sanding will always make the paint grab better than not sanding. There are some excellent testing videos that show conclusively there is literally no benefit to sanding when using high-end primers such as SW Extreme Bond or Behr Bonding Primer. over varnished wood. Conclusive enough that I have stopped sanding the ubiquitous varnished wood in my home, and switched up from the cheap box-store primers.

@Da P.A - a little over a year ago we had our dark-stained kitchen cabinets re-done. By that I mean new cabinet doors and drawers built. Then everything was painted white (with Latex) and, for some crazy reason, everything was then varnished?! Well, after a year. Everything is starting to yellow - getting yellower by the day. The painter says he told us it would happen - problem is he speaks only Spanish. He’s not admitting any error on his part but is saying he will remove the doors/drawers, sand, prime, and paint (again!) for $1500. I’m reluctant to reward a contractor for what I view as incompetence. Is there any way to paint over the varnish the contractor used?! Thanks.

Varnish is a clear coat to protect the paint. Varnish will yellow over time, use a water-based polyurethane which will not yellow or spray a clear coat like i did on the video. you can now sand the varnish repaint and apply the right clear. good luck and please subscribe for more videos.
