    Im also planing on painting my wheels with plasti dip and wanted to ask how about durability of the paint? Like if i go for a little ofroading on hard forest roads and washing the bike does it hold on? And can you take it off easily to return to the old colour?

  • @motoric5188

    Little offroad won't be a problem I assume. But these rubberized paints, like plasti dip, are certainly more prone to being scratched/peeled off. I've never washed it with pressure washer. Sponge, soap with bucket of water was no problem. Mine still sticks to the rim though, but compressor spray paint would for sure be better way of doing it. You could take it off easily.

    I'm thinking to paint mine but with 2k car paint because i have air gun. I'm thinking to remove the tyres, is better or will chip off when i put them back? Do you have some unpainted spots at the rim point that is tyre touching?

  • @motoric5188

    @motoric5188

    3 жыл бұрын

    If you have air gun that's better option than spray paints for sure. I do have some unpainted spots visible only if you get on your knees and try to look for them. Preparation is the key as with any paint job. One trick I've heard of.... worth doing when painting the rim with the tyre on it, is to loosen a pressure a bit. This way one should get paper in between the tyre and the rim easier. As far as tyre changing goes.. I've just recently changed mine and local mechanic did a good job destroying the paint :D So I just redid those spots with remaining spray paint. 2k paint will hold better against scratches that is for sure.

    Hi, I saw that you proceeded to paint it with compressor, after you removed plasti dip, did you sand paper the rim? Did the comperessor paint stuck on the rim?

  • @motoric5188

    @motoric5188

    Hi! Yeah correct, as I have written in some reply already... I have taken off the plasti dip paint. It did stick to the rim extremely well. I didn't use the sand paper to take it off, but I did use help of acetone instead. Acetone dissolved the plasti dip and I just wiped it off. Then I prepared the rim surface with scotch-brite pad (just to make it bit rougher for paint to adhere better) and paint it with compressor. Yeah, the compressor paint stuck on the rim no problem whatsoever. Thanks for watching! 👍

    I've used Plasti Dip, one can of black and one can of clear coat. It's rubberized paint that can be peeled off. There are alternatives to plasti dip if you can't find it, like FlexiDip, PlastiDip, GummiDip,... Note, that if you are after more persistent/long lasting type of paint, I would suggest getting it painted with air compressor/gun and some proper paint. And as an update, this paint is now holding up good for the second season. Some damages because of the tire change, nothing more. Bike is riden on tarmac only. Thanks for the kind words man and thanks for watching! 👍

    I've removed it after it dried up completely. I've let it to cure/dry for a day, with high temperatures in summer time. In some places this paint which is sort of gummy, sticks to the tape/protection. So be careful while you peel the tape/protection off the wheel, not to peel the paint along from the wheel as well. Try to remove from one spoke after last coat while it is still wet. The edge of the paint might adhere back better, than when removing it completely dry. I haven’t tried it on spoke wheels yet but it did work on flat surfaces. Just a suggestion.

  • @motoric5188

    @motoric5188

    7 ай бұрын

    Paint held up until recently, when I've took it off myself... in order to paint the rim with air-compressor - "real" paint. Over span of 2 years plasti dip lost some shine which I was missing already from the beggining to be honest. The paint looked too "dull" to me although I've painted it with plasti dip clear coat too. However, the paint sticked to the rim incredibly well. I had really, really hard time getting it off the rim. I couldn't just peel it off as how I thought it will be done. Plasti dip keeps on tearing when trying to peel it off. I've then helped myself with a rag and acetone which dissolved the plasti dip. So in short, the plasti dip held up surprisingly well and it would last even longer.

Just degrease the surface and go for multiple thin layers and you'll end up with one thick gummi layer. :)
