Another great educational vid gunman top work. I heat the clear now and it really does come out a lot better, it was a little warmer here on the weekend so i got a false confidence and didn't heat it and you guessed it nice big run in a door, lucky i watched the bog trick vid and managed to sand it out and didn't need to redo it, so thanks for that vid as well.Re a dusk mask while sanding i found the paper disposable ones irritated the shit out of me , didn't seal properly and gave me a bad rash so i bought a 3m 7500 series silicon mask with dust filters and it works great and i hardly notice i have it on. Bought mine of ebay from china for $20 with filters , was well worth it. Just thought I would throw that in incase anyone else had problems with the disposable ones they might be worth a try for them as well. Cheers

Hey Gunnman.!!. Here in the Netherlands Europ, it’s now minus 3 *C Outside.. in our bodyshop and homemade spraybooth we have about 7 *C panel temperature maximum.. We store Cromax Pro waterbased basecoat at 21 *C.. For clearcoat we use Cromax VR-1120 with VR-1130 hardener + 5% R-421 varispeed 2k drying booster, heated up in a bucket of warm water.. After spaying clearcoat we can warm up the booth with 2 x 3000 wattt electical coil heaters up to 20 *C.. After 90 minutes is’t hard enough to polish dust, or any other defects.. Yesterday i’ve dit an overall respray on a Porsche 911.. Yesterday it came out better,,, than it did in 2010 strait out of the Porsche factory..

For smaller parts like my Harley Davidson headlight ring and foot peg clevis I just bring the parts inside overnight to bring them up to room temp along with the paint. Head out to the garage with a cheap electric space heater the following day. Spray while the paint and metal parts are still relatively warm and stick them in front of the space heater after each coat. Works great even in sub freezing temps.

Awesome awesome awesome video again. I completely learned spray painting following your videos and I am really really thankfull for you helping us newbies get the hang of this. Just a question. After your recommendations I a purchased the FLG5 and I am glad I did. I love it. But in Transilvania winter came and the temperatures dropped fast, I can keep my booth at arround 20 degrees but since it got cold, I had 3 jobs which were messed up. My clear ran on like the whole upper part of a door, etc. Tomorow I will try the clear heating trick but was just wondering. What settings would you recommend for 1.3fan FLG5? Probably same as ProLite with TE20?

I just painted my car outdoors in the UK in around 2-3 degrees centigrade and failed epicly. I've always painted in the warmer months. Gosh, my clear just rannnnn and ran, but worst of all, it never dried properly and just went all white n hazy, as though I didn't put enough reducer in the mixture (I used two thirds clear). Next day it rained and then of course the clear ended up with rain drops inside it. I tried to sand down and polish with my machine....it worked in the sense that the finish became nice, but when it rained again, it left watermarks in the clear. At that point, I realised it was never going to harden enough and I'd have to paint again and use an accelerator. I'll also heat up the clear too.

Hey gunny, Im in NZ and im finding the clear isn’t flowing out flat. not orange peel, just not flat. Im using a medium hardener and no accelerator. Im outside as I do mobile repairs and it sits around 10 deg at the mo. Ive been putting the clear in the sun and heating the panel. The gun looks like the atomization is good and its not going on too light, so I don’t think its me. Its OK for for a low down repaid, but not a door or fender. Is it just the temp fighting me or ya got any ideas.

Mix the paint first, then heat that cup. Heating up whole cans of hardener can make it go hard very quickly, because condensation will develop inside the canister as you are heating and cooling it.

How about 30-60 degree temperatures or lower because my paint job didn't come out great and I can see the flakes on my truck after I put 2k clearcoat on. It was about 65 or 70 the day I did it. I didn't use no color blender and no slow reducer. But the temperature on the 2k clearcoat said 100 on it Speedkote 2k urethane clearcoat. I used 3 basecoat and 3 clearcoats and I didn't use no primer either because it didn't have a much major imperfections. I live in Michigan so it gets cold here but I never got that professional appearance painting yet. Also is it just better when painting a vehicle to always use factory paint from the dealership you got the vehicle from or just regular factory paint from your vehicle manufacturer. I have a Dodge Dakota now and done painting it but just wanna know this stuff so in the future my paint jobs look and get a lot better because I only been painting about 3 months now but my vehicle still didn't come out looking professional yet but am new to this stuff.

It's about 10 degrees centigrade here in the UK at the moment. I was really disappointed with the performance of my new Devilbiss FLK5 until I watched this video; initially I had been getting bad orange peel and sags/runs. After heating up my paint cans in a sink of hot water the performace of this gun was transformed. I was able to "smash it on" and it looks great. Thanks for this great advice.

I think now I might have fast clear activator because have Nason fast reducer and bought a clear fast product too so it probably was the activator fast but is Speedkote clear not Nason. But have been using Paint For Cars basecoat urethane metallic basecoat. But none of my paint jobs have turned out good enough yet but haven't been paying attention to instructions on can either but looked at them yesterday when got this new paint from Paint For Cars website it actually is Starfire auto paint. It said use tack cloth and to use medium wet coats but I told the manufacturer to send a email with all the instructions but the difference this time would be using fast hardner and reducer because haven't used it before just medium reducer and harder. It gonna be in 40's next month where I live in Michigan in the United States but it gets colder than that in December through February could get down under 10 degrees here. Best bet for me in future is to get a heater for painting inside a garage because in Michigan it get too cold for not having a heater here to be able to paint all year but rather use a electric heater.

I tried that, it's not a good idea haha. It skins over in the pot and has no real benefit. It also dries much faster than clear so not really necessary

killa! so spraying with no reducer and the clear heated up works. does the gloss die or does the clear blush because the panel temp could be between 10 and 20 degrees and the clear is 50 or more? I have been tempted to do it but just not sure. Thanks for uploading gunman!

Never had that happen, I've found the gloss will hold better when heated.

Joshua Nolte - clear will blush if you have high humidity (can be a problem in either cold or hot weather, damp climate here in Hamilton, NZ) - I hit it with a heat gun when that happens and the 'blush' disappears

+Sheldon Booker In my experience a good gun for spraying bikes is the devilbiss Sri pro. 0.8 or 1.0 for base and 1.2 for clear. I just find it easier using the smaller guns for bike panels, with all the curves and vents.

You could do it with primer but I don't usually. But don't do it with basecoat because it stays skinning over in the pot, trust me, I tried haha

I tried this out the other week and had a disaster, not sure if it was related to the heat in the clear or air flow in my booth but ended up with bad solvent pop over the whole car front to back top to bottom started spraying with ambient temps of about 15c and was about 24c when I finished. :S

+The Gunman Wanda hs clear I have a feeling I may have had the air speed in the booth too high causing it to skin over trapping the solvents I sanded it right back and reshot it the following weekend when it was warmer without dramas, still working out the kinks with my setup

I just base and cleared my engine compartment in 45-50 degrees fahrenheit. I didn't heat the panels prior to painting nor did I heat the paint. I can't WAIT to see the solvent blisters in a couple months. I'm kicking myself so hard right now.
