How To Paint Furniture For Beginners! My Top Tips
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
How to paint furniture for beginners! This week I am transforming an old nightstand and painting it white. I put together a video, to answer common furniture painting questions. How to prep furniture for painting? Do I need to sand furniture before painting? Do I need to prime my furniture before painting? I share my steps to getting the perfect paint job.
There are lots of different paints on the market. I talk about the difference between satin, eggshell, gloss and chalk. I hope it gives you the confidence to recycle an old piece of furniture and to give it a new lease of life.
Whether you are painting your kitchen or a cabinet, these tips apply to all projects.
Whatever your style of decor, from boho decor to farmhouse, get the look you want for less by painting and recycling old furniture.

I used to watch you when I was pregnant with my first baby 3 years ago, you had about 10K subs, and I had a lot of time on my hands I remember once, I was sick with nausea, and lying down, I said to my husband, "I want to go to Ireland" he said "why" ... "Because it's so pretty" I was binge watching you... Now, 3 years and two babies later, I've played your video, and I'm hit by just how much the world has changed since then...

I am starting with furniture painting and I loved your video! Thank you!
I’ve just started my 1st painted piece & stumbled upon your video, it’s great! I could listen to you talk all day long, I’m American & find Scottish, Irish, Australian & Indian accents mesmerizing 😀
Thank you for this useful and informative video. It is something I have yet to experiment with and would love to try, so I shall be on the lookout for pieces for my new home when I know what I need xx
THanks for the painting tips! I have redone several pieces in my home and absolutely love them!
Thanks for this guide, Catherine. I have a really tired-looking bookshelf in my classroom, which I am dying to paint so that it fits my decor. Now I feel able to tackle it.Thanks for generously sharing your knowledge! Love to you and your furkids. 🐈
Flipping heck! If that were me there would be paint on the bed ,the wall, the floor! Nice, tidy job. xxx

I was thinking the same thing! I could never paint in my bedroom. I would definitely spill or step in the paint!
Impatience and that anxiousness to see the piece ready and set up has been my bane!! I am better about now but have had to redo a few pieces. So, yes prep, prime and paint with Patience!! Thanks sweetie!
You’ve been an incredible help with my furniture painting project. Thank you 💜

Thank you so much for explaining about chalk paints, I have always wondered why so many people used it, now I have a better understanding of it.
Thanks for the great information Catherine! I plan to spend my summer painting furniture that I have wanted to do for years. I just tried "chalk painting" part of my ugly faux stone fireplace - and that one is on hold. Most of my furniture is oak and very orange undertones and you are right PRIME that BABY first no matter what Annie Sloan says! Stay safe!
Amazing tutorial, thanks for sharing

Hi Catherine from Atlanta Georgia USA. The side table turned out beautifully. What you mentioned about chalk paint is true, when the product was new it was indicated, just paint and you're done, but pieces do have to be prepped and sealed.
Well done! You are so right about giving lots of cure time! Also, on point about a non-perfect project giving a beginning painter a sense of pride and inspiration to try another project. I am a beginner. Anyone can make something more beautiful and personal.

I got 2 pieces of furniture from local yard sales and cant wait to paint them so they look like they go together. The coffee table will get a wood gel stain on top with paint on the rest. Plan to paint the ceiling in white satin too cuz previous owner painted the walls and ceiling all the same color in apricot in the sun room. Great video!

I’m an experienced upcycler but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It’s very well presented, and gives a great explanation of how to start out in upcycling. I use Frenchic chalk paint most of the time, but occasionally Farrow & Ball. If you want to buy F & B cheaper there are websites that will mix their colours in another base paint, ie I’m in the process of decorating my house and I have F & B colours mixed in Johnstone’s Covaplus trade emulsion. I’m in the U.K. and rather than £85 for a 5 litre tin of F & B’s own I pay £27 on a site called Decorating Warehouse. I know this is emulsion but they do mix all other types of paint this way, and as you can see it’s a massive saving. Thanks for your great video and I’m now a subscriber!
Great tips as always Catherine x

Hey girl 🙂 curing time is a killer. I want to use my furniture sooner ..and if you ever feel time flys by, it will Show you how ....slow.... it really is. Chalk paint was totally the craze and not saying I still wouldn't use again, but by the time I'm done waxing ... Buffing .. its so much work, and yes, not the best when you wish to change it up. I was certainly reeled in with Annie Sloan and brushes back at that time. You did a nice job on what you call a locker, night or side table in the U.S.A. Thanks for your thoughts on your video.
