Hi there, Liron here!
In this loose watercolor painting tutorial I'll show you how to paint carelessly, and not worry too much about the result.
We'll paint an urban / cityscape scene, based on a pic I took in my visit to New York. I believe this is the 5th Avenue,

I needed exactly this for my next watercolor class to paint a set of buildings near a canal without making it look like I was copying a coloring book. I had to find this tut and you never let me down.
Great advice that I should tell myself this is just my first one or practice one. It frees your mind up to just start- no worries. It is just my practice one! Thx

Liron Yanconsky just found your channel. Painting is my therapy for crippling pain, and the more I learn, the more I can keep my mind off the b.s. Your commentary is cool too. Appreciate you homey
"congruent" awesome word. Great lesson on freedom painting. I have learned something for sure.
Love your non caring attitude, wish I could be so free, will have to dive into the cold water!
I love your squint perspective. It's helping me understand my own style
That is the beauty of watercolour, to let your brush and paint create themselves on the painting. Let the brush do the work.
DAYUM! that's ah-may-zing!
I heard it best explained like your mind is always looking for shapes and figures, your goal is to give just enough details to push the brain to see what your trying to show. I'm still new myself but I can see what your trying to teach, honestly, I just cross my eyes and I can see your process.
Love this! I have a number of reference photos that lend themselves to this type of exercise.
Fabulous!! I love this. Great tips. Thank you
I truly appreciate your continued encouragement to be enjoying the creative process and not thinking about the end result. It brings about art that is unique
Ooh, I love how that turned out! The "I'm going to do another painting after this" approach is great, gonna try that more with myself
thank you!
Love how it turned out!
Just great! Very well explained. Can't wait to try something along your advices. Thank you!
So true! Thanks for video! Trying to go with the flow
Brilliant! Thank you! Such a good demonstration of how to be relaxed about what you paint.
Excellent video , best advice and demonstration for loose style painting available on line ! Thanks Liron !!
Love this, Liron, and love the way you paint and teach!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!
Love your style. Encouraged to keep simple yet beautiful pic
I am trying it this week, thanks for the demo
This lesson is just what I desperately needed ! Since this is the subject I like to paint ! I deeply appreciate how Liron gives us inspiration and encouragement to jumpstart the student painter , besides demonstrating his expert skills in watercolor ! Once again I will say that He is an expert teacher in his practical easy going method ! Thanks Liron !
Thank you Liron. You give all of us Artist Wannabee's hope that by practicing and learning, we can improve. Love the painting.
You make it look so easy! Respect for your art 👏🏼
Thank you Liron for this and the others, help me a lot! I am very satisfy with my results!
You are GOOD, speaking your mindset as you work is soooo beneficial to me. Thank you
You lessons are the best I've seen so far! I love it! This is so professional and explanation is perfect! Thank you so much!! :))
very beautifully taught and inspired..thnx
Very well done. Enjoyed this video. Thanks
I always learn so many fundamental things from you!
The way you talk about finding connections between different spaces in the painting is very interesting. I think it reveals something about the thought process that goes on when you organise reality into art.
I love your work Liron! Thanks so much, this is actually a great exercise in leaving my comfort zone 😝😁😁😁
Brilliant! I needed this video!
This Channel is GOLD!
Brilliant!
Your demos are so helpful to me, I would never have even considered trying to paint that scene as I would have made myself miserable trying to put EVERYTHING in. Your approach looks more like fun and beautiful results really showing off how great watercolour is at capturing beautiful effect of light.
Very useful.beautiful painting.
Great and very helpful!
Very nice video with some great tips, Liron. I definitely like the idea of telling myself that 'this one' doesn't matter because it's only a preparatory exercise for the real painting that will be done later (even if the later painting is not really going to happen). It's certainly one way to take off the pressure and remove the dreaded 'fear of failure' that can so easily cause us to freeze up. I shall definitely try to play this psychological trick on myself and see if it can liberate me! All the best, Brian.
Love your approach you are amazing
You inspires me a lot.... Thank you.... Keep making
T H A N K Y O U ! Great job! You’re a wonderful teacher!
Another great video Liron, I've been on an extremely long journey on loosening up my paintings, think I'm finally getting there. Its much more fun too "the I don't care approach" 👍👍
beautiful!!!!! 💕
You really inspire!
Great advice!!! Thank you!!
This is so helpful!
I have been busy and not seen your paintings for months. Your progress is wonderful. Great painting and tutorial.

Ah, good thing I simply arrived there looking for you. I'll let you know. I've been mostly homebound with pneumonia since late August but beginning to get out and about again. But I've painted while home ! Yes, I must do both. I'm missing my oils at the same time as watercolour is growing on me. I'll get in touch when on my way to TA.
Liron you make very informative videos. I love watching you sketch up your painting. And seeing the reference photo beside it. Is your paper flat when drawing or on an angle please? Also is your paper dry when your start painting your lovely watery paints?
Hi Liron, great video as always ! Very useful tips and stunning result ! Cheers from Belgium

learning a lot from you vdos .. thanks
Liron, you seem to read our minds! Confused about details, HOW to simplify, all that stuff. You're so encouraging because of your own experience I suppose. You're a great teacher. I'd better go on practicing with my own references ( a different ball game) Funny how you're so laid back when the messy first wash is laid down. I wonder if other subscribers panic for you! 😆 Thanks, great little painting.
Fantast tutorial thank you.
Welcome home, Liron. I haven't missed a video while you were gone. I really have to get outside here in Jerusalem to paint the buildings etc. Even from my balcony there's great sites. Thanks for the motivation. I have been frozen vis a vis painting and constantly arguing with myself whether to return to oil. I'll try this and will visit you in Tel Aviv one of these days. Best, Tzipora

Thank you so much Tzipora! Very happy to have scheduled the vids in advance then. It sounds to me like you should do both! Nothing wrong with that. And just letting you know I’m no longer in the Midrachov (Nachalat Binyamin / Art fair), so let me know in advance when you’re in TLV if you want to meet (:
Great video Liron, i love that mindset. I have a similar one, for this first year of painting mi mindset is .."ok this will probably suck no matter what....so i will focus in learning at least something for a next paintings". Btw, is cool that you give the complainers an answer but hey, you don't have to even explain anything! you are sharing what you have to share, period. People asking for more and more to people sharing knowledge for free in youtube annoys me as hell! jaja. Cheers Liron.
Love this simple yet beautiful you did! Thanks! Regarding Visual language, are these the subjects we studied as we learn to make art? Basically if I can’t paint well this cityscape that’s because I haven’t done enough cityscape?
Good job
Very nice painting. Man thx.

@@LironYan Finally today I had some time to give it a serious try and the result were terrible 😀 First time I was reckless and ended up with a grey mess. The second try was much better but the result was still... not so good. Overall I think I learned a lot and I could break my fear of these kind of scenes. Thanks for this awesome lesson! 😀
I just love this and also your teaching style!

I've had the hardest time finding colors in shadows. This video thought me it's okay to be a little more instinctual and add colors (and even shadows themselves) where I feel they should be instead of being married to the reference photo.
Very enjoyable 😊

This is so helpful. I love how you explain things but not really explain it. Bec sometimes, you just do what u feel like doing. No proper explanation for it. Also, one tip i do to simplify the pic, is I squint my eyes to remove small details and focus on colors and big details. 🥰

Another awesome video in your great, no pressure teaching style. For me, I need to tell myself there will be two other renditions and stop on the second. But I get it. I’m still in the learning stage, not quite a beginner yet ;:-)

Haha you got it! 😊🙏🏼 Do as many variations as you need, there’s no rule against it 😉
Your videos are great, thank you. So I wonder - DID you make a second version? If so - did it turn out better or worse because you were overthinking it? I often do two versions in a row, and the second attempt is always better…
I have sooo much trouble following a ‘method’ somehow my hand always just wanders and before I know it I’ve overdone some places and made a mess, will keep practicing though! Thank you for this video 🌟
I want to learn this kind of painting style.
I will be going to NYC at the end of the month. Do you have any advice for Losing Air sketching and painting in NY?
@LironYan
4 жыл бұрын
That’s amazing, you’ll have a great time 😁🎨 We had really good sunlight- if you have that USE IT! And if not - I really love the foggy views near the ports and sides of Manhattan / Brooklyn/ NJ (: Plenty of beautiful places to paint and sketch. Rooftops of the Whitney had some of the most beautiful views, and I believe the Met also has a great rooftop. Enjoy!
This morning I excersized some real power so that I could get in the mood to paint. I hung up on a telemarketer! HooRAH! Man, when you strip off that tape you should play the music that made David Rose famous. What was it? The Stripper of course. Dah da dah...da da dah
What I like with watercolour is; the build up of paint, light against dark can look awful & wrong when applied wet but once the paint dries, like magic the painting looks right!
I love it. I’m going save some money in order to buy one of your dads paintings 😍

Hi. will you please tell me where I can get this opaque white color? what brand is it? Thank you!
Hahahah! "We're in the business of not caring." That happened to me not too long ago. I said to myself, "There's no way I can do this, but I really have nothing to lose, because I'm using the back of another 'disaster' and, scraping up some old paint from a palette I don't need anymore, so what the heck?" Then, I just started sketching haphazardly, and for some crazy, unknown reason, it actually turned out great and I got some good compliments on it! Go figure, eh? Thanks for this video, Liron. :D

another way to stay loose, at least for those who play a musical instrument, is to consider each painting as a jam session, just a chance to experiment without fear of mistakes.
finding your own vibe....artistic license
Is that a regular pencil ? Or watercolor?
Why can’t I find your frustration free watercolor class? I have looked and looked....... please provide a link so this air head can take advantage of your knowledge, Terri from Michigan USA
