How To Paint An Exhibition Plinth (for beginners)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video follows on from the how to make a plinth podium pedestal or box video. I explain how I prime, sand, fill and finish the box. A few more tips I've learnt along the away. How to keep a roller usable for a few weeks without having to paint it. How to avoid pouring paint down the sink by wrapping your scuttle or pain tray with a plastic bag etc.

Again there are some great tips for beginners like me. I would never have thought that using emulsion on this type of project would suffice. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. N.

This is a really good video for people who never had this type of work/class before. Very clear to understand and cheap (always nice).

I use this method with diluted with water wood-glue for priming the paint job to my woodworks for a long time now and it is a very good trick! And I want to share with you another trick based on this method: When I run out of filler paste and the stores are closed or I’m bored to run for buy some new filler, I just mix a spoon of flour in the diluted wood-glue and here we go! The DIY and inexpensive filler paste ...is ready for use! Seriously... in the most cases IT WORKS. I don’t used for external jobs, because i know even if its very well dry, always have the chance to turn something wrong with the filler, either because the bad weather conditions either because this is not the real stuff! So proceed with caution...

I liked the video but I don't understand why you marked the edges of your material with the marking gauge when your pieces fit edge to edge.

I quite like using matt emulsion on wood. It gives a nice unfocusable yet tangable vision of infinite deadness that appeals to me. Like the rind of a good camembert. 6 dislikes! Did you cheese anyone off?

Some people can't tell the chalkly paint from the cheese board underneath. Maybe I'm using the wrong brush. Maybe I should be painting with cheese strings?

Does the PVA not cause problems with the emulsion?. PVA on walls is a nightmare later on causing cracking and bubbling.

As long as it dries properly I've not had problems. But I wouldn't put it on a paint surface, or between coats though. Just diluted down on bare MDF. This method is also for internal, relatively short term use plinths made on a budget.

I personally use this method with diluted with water wood-glue, for many years now, and I never have a problem with this!Actually this “recipe” is one that used for a lot commercial products for wood or hard paper water based priming coating! If you look on the labels of that kind of products, you’ll see the majority of this is PVA based materials. Of course you can’t used for any kind of surfaces, but for indoor woodwork objects it works like a charm!

How much can this hold ? Is it flimsy? Will it fall over if there’s wind? & what if I want a high gloss paint look?

Yeah but you'd have to mix a bit of water into the first coat of emulsion.
