How To Paint A Truck For $128! Cheap Rustoleum Paint Job on 1990 Ford F-150 Work Truck

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I show how to save money on a paint job for your old work truck. The hardener really helps with paint durability and resistance to scratches and scuffs, I highly recommend. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!

Love seeing people put the time and effort into the older 90s box style trucks regardless of its a Ford, Chevy or dodge. I find it a bit cooler when it’s a old school restoration paint project in the backyard! Awesome job for what you had going on considering it was a outside but it still came out pretty great for what it’s worth. Hopefully she gives you a couple more solid years!

FYI - Valspar makes a product called Anti Rust Armor that is very similar to Rust-oleum, but the Valspar paint can be tinted any color you want, just like normal paint. You're not stuck with the stock colors Rust-oleum makes. I used it to paint a trailer, and matched the color to my truck. Worked great. It used to be at Lowe's, but they recently (May '23) discontinued it. You can probably find it at a paint store that sells Valspar.

I'm in California and there is way too much rust on that truck. ;-) I grew up in Michigan and I have welded bits of support back on when the frame rusted through or zip screwed some plywood on to keep the water from splashing into holes in the interior. Climate makes a huge difference in the life of your car. There are still disadvantages though, I do overheat my engines on older cars running the A/C while going up hill, just have to deal with the 100F california heat when that happens.

Considering what cash you invested, and doing the work outdoors, your result is nothing short of splendid! I never considered using Rustoleum as a vehicle top coat! It makes sense, as their enamel is a really tough coating once it dries well. Sounds like the "go to" paint on your other projects, and it will stop the surface rust! WELL DONE!

The paint job turned out to looking really nice for the kind of paint used. The back seat area looked like it was hardly used and the rest of the interior is immaculate for a 30 year old truck. Coming from Texas, depending on the part of the state as well can also guarantee little to no rust, so this was a good little investment.

Nice job! I use rustoleum a lot. Wait a couple weeks for it to fully cure (ask me how I know), then wet sand and buff, and it will look like you clear coated it. If you keep wax on it, the paint will look new forever, if you don't, it starts fading and discoloring pretty quick compared to urethane paint.

Those guns spray good for a few times but they are made from cheap parts so after a few jobs and cleaning they become garbage. Plus cheap guns use more materials. If you are doing something like this they are great but if you are doing it for a living then invest in a good gun is worth it in the long run. They atomize the paint better allowing better coverage so you use less which saves money. Plus they are made from better parts so with proper cleaning they will spray the same for years

A cheap Rustoleum paint job, applied outdoors, won't make your old truck look like a new vehicle that just rolled off the showroom floor, but it will make your 1990 truck look like a really nice 1990 truck. Awesome results! Painting outdoors is risky but in some climates it works, obviously it works in your area. Funny car painting story - in the mid-50s a neighbors wife wanted her car painted to match her favorite bright red nail polish. She ranted about it for years. Her husband finally said 'if I do it will you finally stop nagging me about it?'. She agreed. He actually bought hundreds of bottles of her fav color nail polish and stood in their front yard using the tiny brush in the lid to apply nail polish on her car hood - during the peak of Georgia's pollen season! It was a nasty mess and she became irate. He was an attorney so they had both signed an agreement. The agreement did not mention conditions that might negatively impact the end product. That huge Cadillac had a great engine, it was an awesome beast that lasted almost 2 decades with a bright red hood and bright green everywhere else. Note to self: be careful what you ask for!

My neighbour saw a van for sale, it got sold, i done another so neighbour asked - Why did it come back / nooo was just another for sale then another, all looking the same.. Try turning the air pressure down a few notches to control the overspray. But heck for a $15 Harbour Freight gun you certainly got 'er done! I had a '95 F150 with dual fuel tanks like yours. I never could figure out why Ford put 2, 12gal fuel cells? It would've been nice to have a 24 gal plus the 12 for emergencies. My buddy used to repaint his old pickups with a can of Rustoleum and a brush and he always said, “I think it looks pretty good!” He never gave a damn what anybody else thought and he saved a lotta money. That’s the attitude for me...

Slapper spoon would have helped ease that crease out. The hood has pins on top of the perimeter of the core support that adjust up and down to lift the front into alignment w/ the fender. All in all, its way better than it was and not prone to go to rust from under the primer. She'll hold up nicely for as long as you need her. A farm truck is born.

Just a plain hammer and block to flatten the crease out. I've even used a hammer and the plastic handle of a screwdriver to knock out some hard dents... But it's on a beater car.

Reminds me of my first truck. When I was in college I got bored in welding class and made my own badges with a plasma torch, then welded them to the tailgate. Wish I would have pulled them off and kept them.
