That yellowish highlight on the right eyebrow is my favorite part, so cool. Golden yellows are so key

For a while there, I would listen to Andrew saying 'always save your tonal best for last' over and over again in each video and I would slap myself in the forehead. But... I gave it an honest effort in my most recent painting AND IT WORKED AMAZINGLY. Thank you so much for the tips, Andrew. Your videos helped inspire me to dedicate a good portion of my quarantine time to painting.

This is an amazing KZread art channel. In a better world there is a cable TV art channel, and Andrew Tischler definitely has a show on it.

This is where all those studies of shadows on spherical objects really comes in to play.

Having been an educator I enjoy seeing these new videos and it gladdens me to see the number of your followers increasing so much since I first started following you. I've purchased several tutorials for my youngest daughter but have enjoyed watching them as well. Another great add to your teaching collection Andrew! All the best to you and Rachel over the holidays and stay safe and healthy.

It's always amazes me how older people look outright beautiful in a well painted portrait. Something about the lines from a well lived life breathes life in to them. Wonderful painting, good job! Oh and Merry Christmas!

Very true. It seems like more than half the portraits I have painted have been of older people, and just something about all the wrinkles and lines and smile lines all give the person more character. Some would tell me not to include a certain shadow or wrinkle but I did anyway because it was the most honest portrayal of the person and it’s what gave more realism to the portrait. I can agree that painting younger people is a little more “boring” because it’s harder to see any angles, everything just kind of blends into each other.

I regret that he may be far too conventional for the likes of Tai-Shan Schierenberg. We have watched with increasing disappointment as 'novel' techniques and sometimes frankly poor results are pushed through whilst truly fine portraits are left in the dust. However, it would be hard to see how Adrew's work could possibly be ignored.

TBH I think its the female judges , they say some nonsensical and quite pretentious crap . I would like to see them replaced and give some real artists a chance .

Starting with mid tones actually makes a lot of sense so that you can gauge more accurately where your shadows and highlights will be in relation, color-wise. Nicely done!
