How to paint a Flames of War Afrika Korps Panzer (15mm scale).
Ойындар
Painting 15mm scale tanks can be a fun challenge in its own right and can be quite different from painting 28mm or 32mm scale miniatures. In this video, we show you how to paint an Afrika Korp Panzer for Flames of War in a great desert colour scheme. There are some useful techniques demonstrated such as dry brushing flat panels and adding weathering to this scale. Not only that, but by following these techniques, you can paint a whole Company of tanks in no time at all!

It’s always so bizarre and yet delightful to see Duncan delving into historical subjects. As a historicals player myself who’s getting into FoW, I welcome this renewed representation in the tabletop community!
Really glad to see delving into smaller scale models. 6mm, 10mm, 15mm are excellent scales.
They are the Panzer Elite! Born to compete! Never retreat! GHOST DIVISION
Absolutely stunning! I've understood some of my mistakes, will make sure to keep this video very close when I'll start to paint again. Thank you Duncan!

Glad we could help 😊
The tank looks fantastic! I was glad to see you do a Flames of War model and I hope you will do more in the future. Thanks for sharing this and I learned quite a lot from this tutorial.
Cinematic battle reports with these beautifully painted models would be so cool!
Thank you for branching out into Flames of War. Can you do the same for Bolt Action?!

Already done. We have around 6 or so full tutorials on our website, everything from the Germans, Americans, British and Russians 😊
Finally, tanks! Finally, WW2! I'm happy. :)
Nice to see some 15mm on your channel !

Thank you
Thank you , DRPA .
Great video, Duncan! Really loved it. Going to have to pinch the way you did the tracks! The chipping adds some great realism to it too. I'm so delighted to see you doing historical models, bringing those skills across. Your commentary about the paint colour choices is well placed too. So much variation between batches, suppliers, bleaching, weathering etc. (Oh and just to let you know, the exhausts on a Tiger are the two big vertical columns on the back, just like on the back of a Leman Russ. The engine deck is where the air goes in.)
Just started an Afrika Korps force for Flames of War and this guide has ensured these have been the best models I've ever painted. I used more Vallejo paints than GW's but it all transferred nicely! Thanks, and I hope to see more mini tanks!

That's awesome!
Oh my god!!! I’ve only just found this channel. I was a massive fan of Duncan with his warhammer tutorials. I’m genuinely thrilled to have found your guides to WW2 miniatures!
Makes me want to grab some of the Flames of War midwar stuff just to do some Africa Korps.
Thank you for demonstrating how your shading & weathering process works on things other than figures. I use them to create the dirty & damaged autos & trucks I build. They come out great & I've taken a few awards for them.
Excellent !!! 😃😊👍🏻 I love Flames if war ! I'm so happy to see you do a tutorial for Fow !!! Thanks !
nice, been waiting for this
Miss you dunc!
Great stuff! I just got into FoW and I am loving it so far. Please do more good sir!
Great stuff as always. Would be great to see some more FoW tutorials in particular mid late war Europe and some camo schemes.
Oh man this stuff is gorgeous! Super dig the historicals! Hoping to see you work your magic on the upcoming black powder epic battles waterloo stuff!
This is perfect, had a friend ask me to paint his afrika core army for him in trade for some imperial knights... thanks Duncan lol
Easy and awesome as always! I will use this for my panzers😀
Thank you much, I have been working on tanks for team Yankee in the same scale and I haven't been to happy with them, but this video shows exactly what I need to do to fix them up nicely. Also I don't use an airbrush so your videos help quite a bit for brush techniques.
Thanks for the video! I am always trying to improve the way I paint my vehicles
Ive got some battletech tanks that will work great with this scheme. Thanks
Really enjoyed watching this approach to painting a tank. I'd like to see how you would approach a 1:35 scale model kit of a German ww2 tank. Great video
Love to see FoW !!! :)
Great job mate
Yes please! More FoW!
Acabo increíble y no excesivamente complejo. GRACIAS¡¡¡
For a second there I thought this might be a Night Shift video! Great job as always :D
Looks amazing! Any chance of branching into Victory at Sea by Warlord Games?
Well done!
Love this! More WWII AFV please, especially ones with Wehrmacht 3-tone camo
Green brown for Vallejo is awesome and is the AK interactive DAK paint set for both infantry and armour
since you are doing 15mm tanks i want to see what you can do with infantry and artillery in that scale
Yeahhh more FOW please :)))
Tiger tracks where blued bc the sand polished the tracks and that reflects like crazy in Tunisia.
Nice Paint 🐅 👍👍
Bit of paint trivia: Germans used a paste that could be thinned with either gasoline or water. Depending on what you thinned it with and how thin you made it, you effect transparency and tone. Some tanks, Tiber 1e included, were gray originally then repainted to the Dark Yellow (Dunklegelb.) THis color was also painted over a red primer further changing the tone.
Very nice
Great video - painting that small stuff can be hard, especially considering the details. Speaking of, there are a few I think Duncan missed: The tow cables had their eyelets painted in the same color as the tank (although, in the Tiger's case the paint was soon chipped due to constant use...), and the tool handles were in unpainted light wood , just given clear varnish. Also, the vision slits on the commander's cupola are missing (in this scale, they are about a hair wide, so yeah, not easy to paint...)
All Tiger I that went to Africa were factory painted in the Troppen 1 scheme. It was a two colour scheme, see 131 the preserved Tiger at Bovington. Ral8000 and ral7008
I am working my way through a Desert Rats army at the moment and then DAK as I have evil plans to re-enact Alam El Halfa. I am using Valejo colours and some colours packaged for FoW armies. Not sure I would ever use Contrast paints though. Though Duncan does demonstrate a technique to do it.
Very nice. Definitely want to see more Flames of War painting happening.
Nice
I would love to see 3 colour camo tutorial from you. I really struggle to get it right :)
When working with smaller scale miniatures one way to convey the impression of size suitable for the full scale original is to make the miniature brighter. In this case I'd apply a heavy cream white (Wraithbone) layer of dry brushing all over the top surfaces, and a bit less heavy to the sides, to both make it look like a large object and get the impression of being lit from above by a strong desert sun.

It needs an airbrush, but I think modulation or panel lighting is ideal for this scale, you need to create artificial lighting on an object this small.
See you guys at salute on Saturday!

See you there!
How did you know that that's exaclty what I wanted to do!?
Hello and really very good video. Can I also use the techniques for a Leman Russ tank?
Hey Duncan exelent work! you don't use varnish to seal youre modells?
Random question Duncan but do you seal your models? The paintjobs are so beautiful I've just always wondered 🤔
Please could you do video on how to paint British army MTP or US Army multi cam. What paints you would use and how to apply.
Damn, I was hoping for a Battlegroup Tobruk painting tutorial :-(
Some FoW at last, thanks ! Any chance of infantry at some point ?
Can't believe they made a Warthunder miniature game
Hi Duncan great video for me as i play FOW , any chance of a video on how to paint US tanks ?
Nice, shows us your whole Afrika Corps army please Duncan.
Panzer go brrrrrr
Would love to see some bolt action or konflikt47
I really love the finish on this tank sir. Can I ask if you have any thoughts on Vallejo's new Xpress paint, is it the same as Citadel Contrast. Once again, all weathered detail on such a small scale is amazing. I'm experimenting on a 1/72 Panzer IV G as I have never built a tank and in any case I'm an ederly amateur but I want to build 3 tanks in 1/35. A ,panzer IV and Crusader Mk.III for El Alamein and a T34/76 because I like them. Sorry to drone on!
I see you painted Darth Maul, could do Vader please?
Great work Duncan, I'm going to try this with my 10mm stuff. ;)
finly i can tell m GF, hey is warhammer not way better than this! great video!
Team Yankee BAOR would be good please!
Thoughts on painting 1/170 Tanks from Memoir 44?
Any idea how to remove shade paint after it dried?

The best way is just to thinly re-layer your midtone or basecoat again.
You probably should have gone with the panzer III or IV for the DAK. The Tiger was barely used at all and not until 43.
When are you going to paint and show of some Kings of war multibasing
Isn't that a Tiger tank?

Weird right?
does anyone have recommendations on how I could paint my panzers german grey using this method? I tried grey seer + space wolves grey + basilicanum grey and then drybrush grey seer again but it does not look right =/
I think that this recipe would work at larger scales as well, say 1:48 or even 1:35
Hey Duncan, have you ever considered making videos with guides how to play? This Flames of War thing, I've heard about it, but I can't find any good quality guides on YT. Is this something that you've ever considered? Or at least some introductions to other Tabletop Games. I'm trying to leave Games Workshop behind after all they've done lately and looking for alternatives.
where do you get this?

Either from their website (www.flamesofwar.com/) or from bigger hobby stores.
...why didn't you first paint the tracks with silver and then brown?
@ogreman2229
2 жыл бұрын
My assumption is because he didn’t want the brown to appear glossy if any silver shown through. A lot of times if you’ve got a metallic as the bottom coat it will leave a strange finish to the regular acrylic on top. By putting the metallic on top it prevented that issue.
TIL (today I learned) the desert camo scheme I was doing for my primaris guys is actually the Akrika Korp scheme. Huh...
paint 1/72 AFV directly.
Panzer Vor!* *means Panzer Vor
You have a tiger in the tumbnail just for you to know
Historical note: the Afrikakorps had no Tigers. All of the Tigers in Africa belonged to a different army, "Panzer Army 5".
