Good morning to you Andrew , you finally convinced me to oil paint a large 30”X40” seascape!!! « HELP »! LOL! I wish I could show it to you!!! I paint it following your and your friend Samuel Earp’s instructions . I’ve been working on it close to 2 weeks now. Lots more to paint. My dilemma, well, everything and THE ROCKS!!!!! I use your colour combinations and I truly, truly, try to make them look WET. “THEY’RE OK BUT DON’T HAVE THE WET LOOK LIKE YOURS”. I am one of you subscribers, 71 years old and If you have time to read this , can you suggest me why !!! LOL!! My husband is very patient since, when I paint, I have your tutorials on my TV and listen to it (we have 1 tv by the way, LOL). Andrew, don’t know what to say more, but H E L P!!! THANKS!!

hey andrew - being a carpenter, I am not on the essential list here in new york, therefore I have been out of work for awhile now, with more free time to do some things I like to do, paint in oils - and search out artists online, man do i feel blessed to have come across your website - i need to tell you every minute of your dedicated time spent studying painting shows in each of your works, i especially love your en plein air pieces, so cool to be able to capture nature in a short time on a small surface - thank you for your works and stay safe in these strange days were living

@@twasbrillig33 - hey thanks man - yes everyone on this earth is essential - i have had a great career as a carpenter for the past 45 years, fortunate to have not missed much time due to illness or lack of work, so now being 63 and put on the non essential list for awhile due to this virus we have been stricken with is ok with me - i have done many essential things in my life so far for my family, went to work everyday outside summer n winter - married, raised two great kids - now have two beautiful grandchildren - so for me to be on the non essential list and asked to stay home for awhile is ok if it helps keep others safe, i can do some things i like to do around the house, and I was blessed to have come across this great artist andrew, hopefully we get this virus under control soon then I can come off the list and back to work again - so thanks again for your kind words and stay safe in these strange days were living in - jeff

Ended up getting the portrait videos and I wasn't disappointed at all. Having retired 3 years ago and starting on my 4th career I intend to follow and buy more upcoming videos from Andrew. The great thing about videos compared to attending classes is that you can keep repeating, stopping and reviewing the work whereas in a classroom environment if you miss something you can not rewind. The seascapes are phenomenal, and as soon as they are available I will order them. Having lost my wife to Cancer and resurrecting my painting interest after 2 years of grief this is just as therapeutic as it is instructional. Let's not even mention this damn Pandemic. Thanks.

Hey mate, sorry to be a stick in the mud. You're right, Zinc is more transparent although it leads to cracking and disadhesion. It totally deteriorates over time. Manufacturers are now back peddling and removing it from their lines of product, bad news! Lead, whilst it sounds horribly toxic, is still a great product. Just exercise caution!

@@AndrewTischlerArt I do have one question though. I recently bought some Da Vinci oil paints and I think I remember them saying that their titanium white had some zinc in it. I'm not 100 percent sure I'm remembering that right. If so, would that cause a similar problem? You're the best btw.

Beautiful, Andrew. I truly appreciate you honestly answering the question, "How long does it take to paint?" Many artists, unfortunately, bristle at this question. It's refreshing to hear you graciously address it. As always, thank you for brilliant content.

I agree with your praise of Andrew :) But I wanted to give my thoughts on why some artists might not like that question about time: First, it implies time has something to do with the quality of the work. It's often not the case. You could train and prepare for ages to do a work in 10 minutes that's amazing. I have seen many great watercolours artists that are quick, but I can see how much training it took to get there. On the other hand, you could work 2 years on a painting and it could still be bad. Today I saw a guy on Facebook complain that people did not give likes to his drawing he had worked 10 hours on. But like with food, if the consumer/viewer likes it or not is not in correlation to how long the chef spent preparing it. It might even be overworked ;) Second. When I get that question, often I truly don't know the answer. I take out a piece and work on it know and then, I listen to audiobooks, I drink tea or coffe, I put it away and work on another piece. The kids interrupt and I have to do something else for a while. Time flies while I enjoy working on an artwork, and (me at least) don't usually keep a timer besides me (if it's not a life drawing session). Maybe I feel the artwork lack something and I might not solve it in my head for weeks. I have a drawing I started on two years ago, and then abandonded. If I decide to finish it, there's just no way I will know how long I have spent on it. It usally ends up with me guessing an amount of time that is probably wrong.

@@MattiasWirf Same thing with photography. Sometimes I feel like making a list of all that went into a photograph. Like... the Canon with no lens cost $1,000.00 +-, the len(s), if all totaled are several more thousands, the PC to do the processing on?? , maybe $800.00 minimum. Don't forget the lease cost of the software to go with it. 5 years ago, Adobe PhotoShop cost over a thousand dollars, back when you could still purchase the software! Then there is the 'priceless years of practice, and finally - it has to be printed & framed, more $$$. How long & how much do I have into my photography... ha ha ha, yea - right.... A L O T !!!

This is just remarkable! Your paintings are hard to tell from a photo of the actual subject and that is what I love the most. I usually do watercolor but have been dabbling in oils for a bit now. I have a seascape in mind that I want to do with that big, gorgeous turquoise wave so I’ve been watching your tutorials over and over. I can’t thank you enough for all the wonderful instructions that you give us and make it all so clear. You are a treasure that I found on the beach!! 🤗👍🏻👍🏻 I will be a faithful follower from now on.
