Aww that's so awesome to hear! Thank you!!
This is invaluable info! Also worth mentioning, if you find that your paint is drying mega quickly before you can blend, especially in the summer heat (which was the nightmare I was having to endure recently lol), slow drying mediums are very useful rather than thinning with water! You only need about 10-20% of it to 80-90% of paint and it extends the dry times just enough that you can get a layer down and blend it.

I found a wonderful slow drying medium from Winsor & Newton, it comes out as a gooey gel instead of most which are very liquid. It really made my average Decoart Americana colors, feel like working true oils. It is so nice to get time back while painting, blending is the theraputic part for me!

@@WoodysAR which product was you using? This project was a hot mess for me because it dried to fast. Thanks
You make it look SO easy! This technique is just what I've been looking for! Thanks so much for the tutorial! Beautiful painting! Love your work!
The painting is ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL!
Love this whole technique!! Thank you, Lisa, and thank you to those who identified the name of the bird!!
This deserves so much more likes and love😱💕🙇♀️☁️
I like doing outlines on scratch paper as well. I've been doing it for almost 10 years now when I began using more pricey papers like Strathmore 500 series papers (I wasted 1 due to a composition fail.... therefore, I draw and transfer the outline to the good paper). It is all totally worth it. I also adore watching this painting come to life, and such a cute birdy too.
This is such a great tutorial, thank you! I love that you shared when something didn't work for you, makes me feel better about my own mistakes 🙂
Thank you for discussing the distinction between blending wet into dry vs wet into wet. That's so helpful!
Good to know about mixing white.
Hey guys I got a tip. If you can’t afford the mop brush like me, what you can do is use makeup brushes instead! 💗

Do you rinse it constantly because mine gets all dry so quickly and then the blending gets streaky!
One of the best teachings
Love your way of instructing, facts and instructiond, without lots of smalltalk that takes time! Some people´s instructions you have to scroll to skip! Thanks for your sharing techs
Wonderful video on how to make a broken/mottled background. This really helped me complete a background for a portrait painting I was working on in oil. The background turned out amazingly realistic showing the person outdoors amongst the greenery and sunlight. I plan to watch her other videos for tips even though I paint in oil. Lachri is a wonderful artist!
Just keep painting until it looks good again. I just realized that this is basically my motto for most of my painting! Thanks for the tutorial!
This is my first try. I'm happy with progress! Can't wait to do it again!.
Thanks Lisa, great advice/tuition, I followed your advice and the background is achieving the lovely depth that I wanted.
Thank you! I now feel it is possible for me to paint a lovely background. Your instruction is so clear and detailed!
Idk if you intentionally mess up.. but I love it, because we're obviously going to mess up and you're there to help us fix it 😊
Your work is amazeballs! Your students are really lucky to have you.
Thank you so much. Your words encouraged me about screw ups and that it’s okay. I usually use watercolors so this is a whole new learning process. I love your work. Beautiful.
You're a fantastic teacher, thank you for all your hard work!
Not only an amazing artist but a beautiful art of teaching Thank you
I'm going to try this technique tonight. You make it look so easy. Can't wait to try it. Love watching your videos.
Great demonstration of painting the Background. I was just planning to paint an Eagle with a Green Background. Very timely!

Thank you sooooo much! I’ve been trying to paint something for my exhibition but I never new how to paint, because I was working with a partner we had chosen the category art. She wanted us to paint so I came to this video
Boy, this is an immense help. I've been doing pen, ink pencil & graphite art since I could pick up & gain basic control of a pencil & pen, but in four decades (or more 🙄) my only experience with paint was limited to water color, oil for linoleum print work & acrylic for walls (gotta pay those bills) in the conventional non artistic sense. My mom has been trying to get me to paint since she took it up some two decades ago & in all honesty, I've just been scared to try it. Not of making mistakes you cant erase, but the mess & aggravation of things that were not anticipated, or known. This vid is way better than the one I had planned fo follow.👍 The other artist claimed he would show both ways to paint the bubbles (bristle brush & air brush), but he ended up showing it done mainly with the air brush & with none of the tips, or warnings you offer. I did think I could get done in a night, but its ok. Finding this vid really soothes that part of me that worries about what we dont know. Thank you very much & have a very happy holiday & new years. 🎁🦌⛄🍾🎉🥳
It seems very complicated to me. But I suppose actually doing it, practicing, well... makes perfect! I admire you so much! You are a great artist!
Before I found this vid I did it background. I painted the subject first. I didn't know what I was going to do with background. It'll be tough, first painting. Thank you for the vid, great info and advice, helps a lot.
Thanks a heap for this vid. I've been flip-flopping iver my canvas for a while now (it's a rough one that's smooth now from colour swaps). Now I know how to achieve the look I 'see' for it. Cheers!
It came out beautiful. I love it! 😍
Thank you so much for making this video ! I've been trying to find a tutorial on making blurred back round but I couldn't find one 😍 this Is amazing
It’s like a fantasy background :) very Disney like it’s pretty
I painted a bird like that today. It’s the first acrylic painting I did (not including elementary school paintings). It’s nice to see that every acrylic painter has it’s own approach. I am very precise, so I was afraid to go into painting. I need to loosen up a bit. I like how your bird turned out.

Your my favorite artist!
Beautiful 😍👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Birds are awesome Love your videos!
I would have to use a pencil or ink pen just so I could see where I might have missed by tracing it. BUT... I normally just draw out my subject free hand. There's a very simply way to do this... Measure the width & the length of your subject from the reference photo... MULTIPLY each of those numbers TIMES how ever large you want it to be upon your canvas. THEN... I use a method called "free association" to fill in my subject within my already measured perimeters... that works fairly accurate for me... sense my drawing skills have always been fairly acceptable. I've never really studied the color wheel and just HOW to mix & apply shades, tones, hues, etc. Lisa, by seriously listening to your good sound advice, I'm actually NOW learning HOW to apply PAINT to my drawings... ha... at my old age... ha ha!! 🤣😁😂
I wish I knew and watched this tutorial when I had to do my final grade portrait painting in college 😅 I love the way you teach!

This was incredibly helpful!!!!!!!!!!! Thankyou for the tutortial :)
amazing 😁really helpful
On the topic of painting a background before a subject, at times I've painted a whole detailed background in black and white, painted color over it, then painted my subject, starting in black and white, and finally painted color over that, all too avoid having to paint around my subject.
Will colored pencil give similar results? If so, I would love to see a video of you doing it. Great video as always. Keep up the great work.
Beautiful background. I got an airbrush recently so I'm looking forward to videos using them! ;)
Very useful information. Thanks for sharing
Love it
great technique
Wow 👌
So exceptionable Absolutely beautiful. Romantic
Very helpful thank you . 😊
This helped a lot, thank you 💎
I learned more about basic painting where I’ve made mistakes countless times more in this video than any other tutorial and it’s somewhat advanced lol
sweet and lovely.
😳 holly moly first Absolutely beautiful you are so talented And I can’t believe how fast you can talk lol great work ty so much for sharing
excellent video!! Thank you. Was wondering what kind of paint you're using for your gray background?
Great demo! Question: Does the mop brush become sticky (for lack of another word) when you repeatedly go over the circles making it hard to remove to smooth the paint? If yes, what do you do because you want a dry brush, right? I tried this a while back and seemed to struggle with the brush picking up too much paint, if that makes sense. Thanks!
