Enjoyable experience watching your painting evolve! One commenter called adding the bridge a "story waiting to be told." Indeed, the rope bridge could be telling my story, the tale of how I, a city kid, used to spend summers with my grandparents who lived in the Appalachian mountains in a narrow valley (or hollow/holler) between two high hills rising on either side of the road that ran up the hollow and the creek that ran down it. At times when an exceptionally heavy and long summer storm would happen, the rushing water carrying logs and such from higher up the hollow would cascade down the valley and take out the bridge, and we were all stuck on our side of the creek until the waters receded low enough for the bridge to be restored. It was exciting for the grandkids, but trying for our grandfather, I'm sure. Our grandparents were rather self-sufficient with gardening, chickens, and such, so we were never in any danger of starving. After university, I've traveled widely in the world, but my fondest memories are of the sweet times in that narrow valley doing things like wading in the creek catching crawdads until my feet looked pickled, and I'm a girl! Sorry to be long-winded again, but it had been some time since I remembered how exciting it was to sit on the porch and watch the creek rise until something came along and crashed into the bridge. Thanks for the memories!

Love the bridge and thank you for resisting filling in the bottom corners with paint. It has an other worldly feel to it. I am afraid of heights and will not go across the bridge!

That is utterly Gorgeous, Paul. IMHO - the Bridge is a Beautiful finishing touch - it gives the painting even more depth, a feeling of balance AND a flavour of Japan. I Love it! You are a genius! Thank you for this Fabulous tutorial. Love, Mel in Devon 🍰🌻

I was subscribed about a year ago when I did a couple of your tutorials, the seagulls and the snow scene with red telephone box at Bamburgh. I really enjoyed them but my painting went downhill and I gave up. Now I feel is the time to try again and re subscribed today and this tutorial dropped into my announcements. What a mad idea (in a really good way) as no one can say if you got it right or not so I will be having fun, and probably wasting a few sheets of paper but who cares😊. I have a lot of catching up to do on your excellent tutorials but I have the rust tractor prepped and ready to paint. No idea what it will turn out like but I will never know unless I get those brushes wet again. With regard to the rope bridge. I think it works well with or without. With the rope bridge there is an implied context to the picture, before the rope bridge I saw the light area as a waterfall so it works both ways for me. Many thanks and glad to be back🙏

It started looking more snd more as an underwater seascape, and once I saw it I couldn't unsee it😅 Even the birds became fish and the bridge the skeleton of a submerged ship. I've tried the spray bottle but need to seriously downsize. Yes your painting is amazing 😍

Love this Paul..mmm..maybe without the bridge. Watched a podcast yesterday of Will-I-Am being interviewed and he said that as soon as you start to be concerned about what others think of your work, you stop being a creative person. This video today is truly in keeping with just being your best creative self. Thanks so much Paul.

I love the way the rope bridge "forces" the eye to see an embankment in the middle of the painting--without changing anything else. Very well done! I learn so much by watching--and painting along with--your videos.

Good afternoon, dear Paul! These spontaneous paintings are a real challenge, they only look simple in interpretation on Master's hands (like yours). In reality it is not this simple, you have to define a good pre-plan before starting. And to have a great imagination, what is also an ability not for everyone 😊 great tutorial as always! Thank you. Looking on your tutorials on my tv where I unfortunately can’t comment. However, there fantastic! Love the humorous, but still serious way of teaching watercolours. So nice that you add how to mix colours, perspective, ‘mixed media’, composing… etc. Thanks for all inspiration-earlier I was only painting in acrylics, now I love the living watercolours.
