How to paddle through an island.
Umfin Island lives 3 km off western Donegal in the Republic of Ireland, it is home only to sea birds and seals. Running through this island is a 300 metre long sea cave/tunnel, it runs right through the island and is very narrow in two short sections.
In this short film Iain Miller paddles through the tunnel in a spring low tide from the landward side to the Atlantic side.

Nice one, never thought I'd see that cave on screen. Paddled through it a few years ago in an enclosed sea kayak, bit hairy in places with the surge. Amazing experience and natural wonder at our doorstep.
Best tackled at mid to 3/4 tide, if the tides drops too low it dries and exposes boulders in the first 5-10 metres, making it impassable in a boat. Fine for swimming though. Any westerly or Northern swell/ wind causes increased surge so fine weather or easterly winds best. And a big torch!
Nice one, looks brilliant... G
I bet the sunshine looks very good peeping around the corner coming back out.
I wanna do it!
Tried to do this at the weekend but there was to much swell. What swell and tide did you do this on?

Paul Deering way too much sea running at weekend. You need less than 0.5m not from NW. About 1.2m mean tide is ideal
