Paddling video tutorial. Michele Ramazza is going to explain the two fundamental movements which create an efficient paddling style. This video is good for beginner and advanced paddlers. The ideas shown in this lesson have been studied for many years and tested while teaching to kayakers.

    great video. thanks for taking the time to make and share!!! As a victim of a car accident with two hip replacements, this video has helped me to not only learn but to adapt to my upper body. I need lean back because of them....luckily I am a swimmer and spent much time in a wheelchair and have upper body strength. It is easier to learn properly, understand the theory behind the paddling then adapt, than try to start from new.

    His technique is perfect. I'm a total beginner and I applied it and it worked very well right from the start. On my second ever kajak tour I paddled quite fast for 8 hours straight about 55 kilometers a slow river and I had no fatigue during the tour and no muscle pain the day after. This technique ist that efficient. It really comes all from the torso rotation.

    Very helpful. First time I've seen an overhead and it makes it very clear: rotation with the paddle shaft and chest parallel. Also, how the grip and hands work and common error to have left hand fixed and not left shaft turn in left hand. Very well explained

    Nice comprehensive explanation. I suppose all these presented in your video are applicable for a zero angle feathered paddle as well. The only difference would be that there is no dedicated control hand, so the shaft rotates in both hands. Right?

    This is a great video. I would have posted it to our club FB page and web site but the lack of a PFD (BA) or life vest during part of it won't allow me to do that . I am sure it is for clarity of instruction and demonstration but we are a little obsessive about this. I see elbow pads and a helmet on the white water so I know you are part of the safety culture. Great video!

    I never thought about keeping the paddle shaft aligned with the torso....makes sense. I always teach by saying keep your arms straight but I think keeping your torso parallel to the shaft is easier for people to think about on the water.

    I would very appreciate it for your answer on the following question. I see at 2:02 in this video the straight shaft. But there is bent shaft. Is it good idea to use bent shaft ? What do you think about bent shaft ?

    Konstantin vekser bent shafts helps a bit if you are not able to keep your wrist straight and let the hand open a bit. it's not the evil, but I personally don't like it much. I think straight is more performing. so if you can learn correctly with the straight shaft I think it's better

    yes, i was too looking for that too. The video tutorials on youtube are pretty much for flat water k1 paddling. From watching others and experiencing myself i find the sea kayak paddling more efficient and less demanding, i.e. medium to low stroke [pushing hand height] and increased torso rotation, on relative calm waters and for long distance paddling. Then there are times when arm/shoulder power is required for short bursts to catch a wave or to maintain balance [there's less to no rotation in those instances].

    daisilui , when more control is required do not put too much torso rotation is ok. As I said you can decide how much power demand from torso and how much from arms. You will figure it out by yourself if you can style both movement
