In this video you’re going to learn how to overhaul an old style bottom bracket. Or rather, in this case, an adjustable cup-and-cone bottom bracket.
You can find these type of bottom brackets on bicycles up to the early nineties. Already during the eighties, sealed-cup bottom brackets, became popular. But we’re usually only on more premium bicycles.
These old style bottom brackets consists of a spindle held in place with two bottom bracket cups. In between the spindle and the cups are the bearings. By tightening the cup on the non-drive side play in between the cups, the bearings and the spindle is removed.

Looking down and being able to read the text on the spindle naturally was a good hint for me. Thank you.

hello! I have an old bike from the 90s and when i pedal it doesn't spin smoothly. It rotates in increments and makes clanking noises. What do you think is the problem with my bike?

It's difficult to say not knowing what bike you have, from what year, and not being able to see or hear. But if your bottom bracket is the same as in the video, either the bearings are totally shot and in need of replacement. Or, if your bike has a rear derailleur, the cassette can be worn causing the chain to slip and skip.

I'm new at this. Can the bottom bracket be replace with a Litepro ceramic bearing? My bike bearing seem to have cracking sound when peddling 😂

we have cartridge bearing bottom brackets that fit in the same spot , run for a very long time with less friction and do not require regreasing or adjustments. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y3amuMx9dtTVpKg.html Your bike is not like a vintage car in that everything has to remain the same for a reduced insurance coverage , so improve what you can !

@@restorationdotbike Thanks, I wish I had the tools, these old school tools probably are expensive and hard to find.

Just use loose balls, ball bearing cages are garbage.

Exactly what I would do. Trash the cages and make it a loose ball bb.
