UniCrafter on Afterburner values it's 130% on the power limit, +110 on the core clock ( about 1502Mhz with turbo boost) and +520 on the memmory clock. btw it's a gigabyte WF gpu. Mind that every gpu is different even it's the same brand and model but still this card overclock's very well for any model, I had other gpu's before and they could OC too but the performance boost was never this good

Thanks a bunch jay, actually got me into overclocking now! I've been wanting to go buy a new card but money is tight right now so this was a perfect way to gain a little performance for nothing! Built my system 4 years ago I7-4790K GTX 960 8gb ram 250gb ssd boot Stock: FPS:36.5, Score:1525 Min FPS:19.0 Max:66.7 OC: FPS:40.2 Score: 1683 Min FPS:20.5 Max: 73.6 Definitely not the biggest improvements but they are definitely better than none! It's time for me to upgrade just haven't gotten around to doing so yet.

I learned so much from this video! I maxed the power limit and temp limit to start. Then I slowly increased the Core Clock and got my msi 970 core boost clock of 1329 increased to 1505 "stable". I say "stable" because I used The Division Benchmark on Ultra Preset and not sure how that compares to Valley Benchmark. I gained an average of 4-5fps without messing with any other settings. Needless to say I have more testing and learning to do but I had a lot of fun using this method, thanks again Jay!

I've found that pushing my Galax Exoc 970 past +1446 causes my card to hit its 125% power limit repeatedly in games like Battlefield 4 and War Thunder, causing it to downclock suddenly before clocking up again (graphs show this)

Correction to your correction: MSI Afterburner displays an offset for Nvidia GPUs that specifically support GPU Boost, rather than Nvidia cards at large. So, if you have an older Nvidia card(say, a GTX 550 Ti), it will show the absolute clock value. If AMD cards gain a similar feature to GPU Boost in the future, then you'll see the same thing there.

+TranceForLyfe I personally would say - as long as you can play your games, keep it. I went from a GTS 250 (complete breakdown, not even recognized on different mobos) to a HD 7870. And when that got a memory problem i swapped to a R9 280X. I can play the games i want just fine, so i will stick with it till it doesn't work anymore. (and no, no OC on any of those cards, as i was able to gain 60 fps stable or was CPU-limited till the time the broke).

ShOcKiNgReAliTy e I've already decided not to go for a 780 or another 700 series card altogether, as that isn't really a step forward more like a side-step. Also, I don't trust someone enough to buy a used piece of hardware like a video card. Right now it'll either be a 970 G1 or I don't upgrade at all. I'm torn.

+Daniel Burgos You think extended gaming with a significant OC over a month comes to an extra five cents? Sounds like you've never paid a light bill in your life. +MasteerCheef You have to "buy" the extra energy needed to power the OC for extended gaming. I thought I made that clear in the OP. It may be a more cost effective solution, depending on how much you game with the overclock, but it isn't "zero cost". You *will* pay for the extra performance one way or the other.

Strange. I use MSI Afterburner on my GTX 950 and I can't adjust the voltage at all. However I am able to adjust the voltage in EVGA Precision X. I found that I can use Precision X's voltage control independently from the overclocking program so I can use EVGA's voltage control while still using MSI Afterburner to overclock. What's even weirder is I gain speed on the boost clock just by adjusting the voltage alone. I'm afraid to add voltage though since I have a low power version of the GTX 950 and it has no power connector and claims to already max draw 75 watts from the PCI express slot. It seems to be fine with an extra 25 or even 50mv. I just don't wanna start smelling smoke from the motherboard.

Hey Jay! Thanks for this guide, I found it very useful! I have a question though. I tried to change the voltage because the valley bench becomes unstable, it hangs at some points in the scene, but the voltage shown by Afterburner doesn't change. It doesn't matter if I set Core Voltage to max (a mere +12), the GPU voltage will be 1.2V. Is this a bug in the software or does the gpu prevent changing the voltage? I have a MSI GTX760 Twin Frozr 2GB.

+BoutchooQc sometimes you need to re-install the graphics driver, as sometimes your system detects a "different" card, because of the new clocks... Just re-install the driver, job done

Do you need a quality power supply to safely adjust the voltage and power limit to overclock the gpu? I added a graphics card in an old prebuilt desktop and was wondering if it is still safe to oc or not.

Mine came as factory OC. Should I still dabble with it?
