Supplies
• 12” x 12” x 2” All Purpose Storage Tray by Brightroom (Target). I used these to hold 3 unopened layer cakes. They are stackable.
• 12” x 6” x 4” All Purpose Storage ½ Storage Bin (Target). I used these to hold fat quarters, half yards, and anything else that could be folded in the manner described in the Folding Fat Quarters section above.
• Sterilite 15 qt Clear View Storage Bin with Latch (Target). I used these containers to hold my 2.5” strips. I was able to store strips 3 across - and several strips high.
• Other storage bins I used came from Target and Costco but I purchased them years ago so I was unable to find links.
• Missouri Star 10” x 10” Square Ruler. I used this ruler to cut larger pieces of fabric down to 10” x 10”.
• Missouri Star 5” x 5” Square Ruler. I used this ruler to cut larger pieces of fabric down to 5” x 5”.
• Missouri Star 2.5” x 15” Ruler. I used this ruler to cut my 2.5” strips and the 2.5” x 2.5” squares.
• Comic Book Boards - 7 ½” x 10 ½”. I used these for my fabric pieces that were larger than ¾ yard.
• Alligator Clips. I used these to clip the fabric in place on the comic book boards.

Also lovely to see you modelling and involving her in sorting and organising with your daughter. All learning is transferable and for her to develop a linking, organised, sorting mindset is nothing but good.

Really informative. I think the way you wrapped your fabric in the other direction is an awesome choice. I may be taking your help and reorganizing mine like that. It actually gives you a better visual on what you have at a glance. The fat quarter folding is great too. I really like your methods and style. Thank you so much for sharing your technique with organizing your fabrics ❤❤❤

I've watched a lot of videos like this but this is the very best one. I never thought of turning the comic book boards but I'm going to do that today! I have fabric on the floor, in baskets, boxes, and totes. I'll never use it all but I don't want to give it all away either. This video will help that.

Thank you for your clear, inspirational and endearing video. Great how your daughter was involved and sorted the fat quaters into colours and themes. I had never thought about using alligator clips before. Useful tip. Thank you. Hope your fabric stash sort out has helped your quilting. Best wishes, Ruth Andrew in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.

Hi, I'm tickled for you! Congratulations on the 7000. I'm sure that's going to continue to grow. I think there are many fun things to do and try with Tyrese fabulous gifts. However, the felting pad and needle, looks very intriguing. It absolutely looks like a lot fun and with many possibilities. Thank you for sharing.

All wonderful advice! What I need to figure out is how to organize and store fabric used for fussy cutting for English Paper Piecing! Those fabric pieces that have been cut for this purpose need to be kept separate from full pieces, since they end up looking like very colorful swiss cheese!

Oooh I’ll have to think about that! So far my EPP has been with solids so I haven’t had to fussy cut anything yet. Could you store them in containers with dividers?

Looks great! Thanks for the helpful tutorial. I have things in a laundry basket (to be cut down or folded). I typically spend some Zen time cutting things down when I can’t concentrate on sewing. Thanks for the boost to get organized!

I've been using bobby pins (like for your hair!!) to clip my fabric around boards. Cheaper, and if I drop one and step on it it won't hurt LOL

Are your fabric boards more sturdy with putting your fabric on the board sideways?

  • @jctquilting

Yes. I’m finding this to be the case. Maybe it’s because they’re not as tall so gravity doesn’t take over as much?
