    This past weekend, Memorial Day weekend, We only used 90% soil sulfur this year on our mature trees. This tree is now fully established and it's good to go on its own.

    Our citrus flowers fell off this spring too! I'm not sure what happened exactly. It was filled with bees this past March and April, so I know they were getting pollinated... It may have been that we didn't use Bone meal in February to add the important potassium and phosphorus for strong flower blooming. We also had A LOT of rain this past winter and spring and may have washed the flowering pollen and hormones out of the flowers.

    You mentioned fertilizing citrus trees with organic citrus fertilizer. What kind of fertilizer is this. Is it available in normal NPK form? If that is the case what is the value of each ie nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium? Thanks for the video.

    There is really no set NPK percentage for citrus. Citrus does however like to be fed often. We have a lot of success with high nitrogen and phosphorus organic fertilizers. There are several organic fertilizers we recommend you can use for citrus that provide other micronutrients including beneficial microbes and minerals like chicken manure. It can be used as an immediate nitrogen (N) fertilizer and will breakdown providing a balanced nutrition so your fruit will taste better and will be more nutrient dense. Other Organic citrus fertilizers have natural ingredients that are just as good, but chicken manure is one of the best to feed your soil!

    I added chicken and bovine manure together with the soil in the hole when I planted my citrus tree. Was that a perfect way to transplant?

    Great question! Bovine manure is great! As long as it's not straight from the source, it is a highly NPK balanced fertilizer. "Raw bovine manure" is so nitrogen rich it can burn roots. So if it has been processed for about a year or bought in a bag from the nursery you should be just fine. That's what we fertilize our grass with in the spring and fall. Be careful not to over water your trees. The nutrient dense manuers can rot roots if left over watered in poor draining soil.

    Do worm castings work too?

  • @AmzBackyardOrchardandVineyard

    @AmzBackyardOrchardandVineyard

    Yes absolutely. Worm castings have many other biological benefits combined with a gentle nitrogen supplement. I'd suggest about ¼" layer under your mulch, around the drip line. Great question!

    Citrus really thrive with temps above 50°f - 10°c. They also love heat! So anywhere in zone 9 should be good.

    Look into yuzu lemon.. they are hardy down to 0 once mature so you could start it indoors in a pot and take out out in the summer & eventually leave out year round in ground.

    They can be grown in greenhouses very well. They just like temperatures above 50°f - 10°c and full sun.
