    As a German observer, however, I must add that it is not usually customary in Germany to be addressed as "Du" by the wait staff. This usually only applies in discos, bars or „in style“ restaurants. In a normal gastronomic establishment you are addressed as "Sie" and it could even be offensive if you address the waitress or other strangers as "Du". This form of address should be observed at all costs.

    Yes, you’re absolutely right! It happens to me a lot because people assume I’m "younger", like a student 😅 but it’s not common. Maybe next time I should speak up… 🤔
