Isn't that a tank from a Yamaha Seca from the 80's??? My first bike was one I got back in 1988-89 when I was 15. I traded a Graphix Water Pipe for a beat up drum set and then traded that for the Seca. I used to use it to deliver papers on my paper route and then because I didn't have a Driver's License yet I would sneak down the backroads out to the country at the crack of dawn and ride it for hours. Same red with the white strip tank.

Wouldn't using a drill put metal shavings into the tank and in turn put metal shavings into your feel and engine etc

How you change the cap if you lost the key? That’s what I’ve run into with mine. Put it up 2 months ago and can’t remember where I put it. Mine is an 83 Yamaha 920 and it also has a stupid seat lock that fits the same key I lost.

I'm not sure, my tank was full of varnish and rust. I figured cap was bad anyway. Some one commented that there was a way to unlock with two metal straps. I would go to a lock Smith, should be able to make a key cheap no travel time if you bring it to them

I'm in the same boat. I've ordered a new key switch kit and I can install this no problem, just getting the old gascap off is gonna suck

That isn't practical thing to do its just a show to destroy the key hole instead of using other method you end up a quick solution. The simple method to open the cap without a key is just by using 2 flatted thin metal rod the one is for twisting and the last one is a pins pusher. That's it ... Very simple - FROM PHILIPPINES.

You should be real careful drilling a gas cap on the tank... Better to just brute force it with a screwdriver/locking vicegrip combo and bust the wafers. You might have to empty the tank, but you'll have to anyway and if that sparks, might get a nice lil fire to put out... You could also do like the one from the Phillipines said and use a small allen key as a tensioner, and like something flat and thin enough to push the pins and get em flush and you just kinda put the tension down like you would if you were turning your key, kinda feel out the wafers (they'll *click* as they go flush and fall under the tumbler's tension). Do that for like 1 minute and voila!! Another thing you could do is get a really thin screwdriver, a nice 3lb sledge hammer and bust up the wafers in the lock *just* enough to easily turn it with that same flathead or any old key.

What size drill bit did you use, i went all the the way through with a hss 8.0

I don't remember I think I started off small and got progressively bigger.
