This is a quick reference on how to change your default settings to open your pdf files as a desktop window and not as a metro app outside of the desktop.

It's now called Adobe Reader DC, so the link still works - and the program works as intended. Thank you sir.
That's great - just what I needed! Many thanks. What a silly idea that you cannot open a pdf and use it on the desktop alongside other documents. Thanks so much for sorting this out!
That is the most valuable video I've seen in a long long time - thank you!
Thanks man, that was fast and easy! finally I can work properly :)
Worked like a charm, thanks a lot!
Thank you very much! I got sick and tired of opening my pdf files outside of the desktop
This is GREAT help!!! thank you,
Thanks man... sooo much better
OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!! this worked for me. I AM SO HAPPY!!I HATE the windows 8
Thanks. I am new to Win8 and am finding the pdf reader app less easy to use at times than the standard adobe reader I used in Win7. I especially have trouble with navigating pdfs in Win8 reader as some have next/previous page nav arrow and some do not! So I have just installed the latest Adobe Reader and all my pdfs have automatically been associated with this, without me setting them as default programs as you show here! Rt clicking the pdf icon gives the option to 'Open with' so you can choose.
Brilliant, thank you!!
Thank you so much!
Thank you very much.
Thank you!
thank you!
Thank you so much. :)
Wouldn't a quicker way be to right click on a .pdf file and select open with (choose default program)?
Question: When I download a PDF file from a website - the file is placed in a "download" library - which I access by clicking on a small downward pointing arrow in the upper right of the windows task bar. Before windows 8 - when I clicked on a PDF file link to download, the PDF "opened" in Adobe, and I had immediate access. Any clue on how I can get back to the prior protocol? Many thanks.
Thank you!! Big help ;-)
what background is that?
Thank you so much. Metro set up is such counter-intuitive garbage. Especially when I need two documents open at once.
thanks so much :)
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Doesn't work for me. Still opens PDFs by default in Metro.

This is awesome! I got so angry with the 'reader-app'!
The reader app has great cinematic video but it gave me tonnes of trouble for spit view
Thaaaaaaaaaank you!!!!
it's not working for me. I did exactly the same but my PDF still open from App :(
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)
Thank you very much. I hate the metro set up and cannot wait for Windows 10 to hopefully clear up this dumbness. Until then, hints and tricks like this are the shit. Appreciate the "how to".
YAY windows 8 is hard to navigate if you don't know what you are doing, would of been handy to get a getting started brochure
windows 8 is turning out to be alot more trouble than its worth!

I hate that it automatically opens stuff in the metro apps! It's Microsoft "Windows" not Microsoft "Window." Good interface for a tablet not for a desktop.

Agreed. Windows 8 would be awesome if it was exactly like Windows 7! :)
Thank you so much!
