Nice video, But a good piece of advice is vacuum the bottom grill where the ram gate is BEFORE removing the screen.. All along the bottom of the screen is where the air is pulled into your iMac system. By removing the cover and RAM and blowing air there youre just blowing the dust and dirt right back up into your system and defeating the purpose of removing the screen to clean it. Good video.

correct KRS, ComputerSurgeon could/should have started with vacuum cleaning bottom grill and round grill above power inlet. Nevertheless: very good video : fast but at the same time also very clear. FYI: I opened my 21,5" iMac from mid 2010 using these instructions, did this outside however on a clear, wind still day (to avoid dust in the house everywhere)

Great video!!! Sidenote: You can make any imac (within certain years, Ive personally done 2009+) run catalina after a Hard driver upgrade (to solid state, easier to convert to AFPS), Ram upgrade and backdoor the upgrade. I dont know why they make it seem like older models can support newer OS'... oh wait, its a money game my friends :) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY 2020 models. With some research and experience you can make any Mac (within obvious reason) run current OS. I even changed battery, SSD, RAM and the core on my macbook pros (2009-2013) and they run Catalina flawlessly. Learning to solder the core is the most tedious of the journey... but never buy 2020 models unless you want ego rights (bragging) or aesthetic. Time or Money... you have to choose. Spend the money to "save time" or you can use that Time to learn very little tech work and save (or make) money. Plus its super fun and rewarding to know your equipment inside and out if anything was to go sour. Opening that iMAc and removing the dust looked SOO satisfying, sadly mine don't accumulate most dust since I did tweak mine a bit to prevent caking xD (love that term!) But to all who are fearful... dont be. LEARN your product, be confident and explore it. You won't be displeased.

Try to do video authoring and animations with Adobe After Effects, or 3D rendering, on a 2009 imac, then on a 2022 one, and you'll notice why you not only need the 2022 model, you'd dream to have one made in 2050. I like the spirit of your recommendation, but it's valid only for people using a computer only to send emails, post pics on facebook/Instagram and watch youtube videos. They should better buy a $100 Raspberry, it's enough for that use. And anyway are activities you can accomplish even without a computer; just use your smartphone.

Hey there! Really nice video! I'm curious, though, I have an IMac that keeps blacking out. It looks like it's going to sleep since when you bring the mouse to the bottom right, the screen usually comes back. I'm wondering what could be the problem and if you'd have heard of such behaviour. I'm taking a guess asking, but feel free to tell me off XD

  • @liski12

The suction cup will not work for you. The screen is “glued” take a utility knife and work the seam between the glass and the aluminum case. Go gently around the top, right and left. Work the knife in slowly. Don’t pry it until the right, top and left are free. The bottom will still have the rtv or what ever. I broke one trying pry the glass off and using the suction cup method. Don’t do it if you don’t need to.

Apple products are way over-priced and made in sketchy china, often now going faulty just after warranty expires and apple support is hopeless now too, apple needs to move back to California and make decent machines again and look after their brand name and not to take customers for granted.
