    This pedal through the front of a decent amp's clean channel using a guitar with a ceramic humbucker in the bridge position gives a sick old school death metal sound like Shaune Kelley's guitar tone in Ripping Corpse. Love this pedal and will use it til the day I die.

    Yup. Most classic death metal bands used it as a pre amp or pushing the input of an amp. Like I said, The pedal itself doesn’t suck. You just gotta stay away from cheap/bad amps’ input channels 🤣

  • @PatPosse

    Yes. It would still be the input of the amp… either way; this video is for people who tried it on the input and didn’t like it. A lot of people do like it on the front end of the amp. You might be able to try it out at your local music store… maybe give that a shot and take it for a spin before purchasing it 💪🏻

  • @TheKaappari

    I've noticed that distortion pedals in general don't like clean tones that are too bright and sparkling. Experimenting with pedals such as the DS-1, boss power driver (a hidden gem of a pedal) and guyatone zoom box (related to the mxr distortion +) and a roger mayer voodoo tt (a transistor based distortion/fuzz), you want to set the mids pretty high and treble pretty low. If you need brightness use an eq pedal in the fx loop. It makes a lot of sense that people who use amps with fender style clean channels or fender style amp modellers will perceive distortion pedals as harsh sounding as those amps scoop out the midrange and add a lot of treble by design.

  • @PatPosse

    @PatPosse

    3 жыл бұрын

    Oh yeah! Also the fact that a lot of times the pedal works way better if plugged into the Fx loop. I always try to tell people that the main distortion and tone should come from the amp but they want it to come from the pedal (and then they expect the pedal to sound as good [or as bad 🤣😉] out of every amp)

    So, I have a blackstar ID Core 100….when I plug the pedal into the effects loop, it sounds super muffled and shity. Then I tried to just plug it into return and it didn’t make any sound at all! My line in is the size of a headphone jack so I can’t use that. Any tips? The only way I can possibly use it from what I know is through the input on the top.

  • @PatPosse

    @PatPosse

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi there! Those amps are always weird because of all the pre loaded built in effects and stuff. The right way is through the effects loop as you did in the beginning, there might be a setting or something that makes it sound muffled, maybe your battery is dead or something… hard to help over a message but that should work. If anything try checking out the manual or I’m sure there’s some Blackstar ID specific video online that shows you how to connect pedals to it… good luck Man!

  • @PatPosse

    i have a question. My metal zone only sounds good when the guitar is plugged into the pedal and the pedal goes into the return of my amp. If I run it from send then return with my guitar plugged into the front of the amp it sounds horrible..... This is stopping me from having the pedal on my pedal board seeing how everything else runs through the front of the amp, I have no way to use the distortion pedal unless I use it by itself with it only running from guitar, to pedal, to return.

  • @PatPosse

  • @GlorifyGodInEverything

    @@PatPosse Nothing. My normal setup is delay runs through send and return (effects), my guitar is plugged into the first pedal in my chain, last pedal plugs into the front of my amp. I figured since the pedal acts as a preamp I could run it through my effects along side my delay, but it only sounds good with it going from guitar, to pedal, then return section with nothing else plugged anywhere else in the amp. I read somewhere that a pedal going into the return section of amp is actually how a pre amp pedal is supposed to be used, but that makes no sense to me because you wouldn't be able to run anything else, and there is no way anyone is running a whole chain of pedals directly into the just the return section of the effects, they will sound like crap haha.

    Old School amps have FX loops too... Best you can do is plug it into the input and lower the level knob on it so it doesn't push the preamp as hard. Just get it to distort. OR use no distortion on the pedal and just use it as a TS9 of sorts and push the preamp with the level all the way up and the amp's regular distortion. Hope it helps!

Will I get the tight distortion like pantera in the lower wattages and in the lowest bedroom volumes cos I play in the lowest volumes in my bedroom. Sorry neighbors and parents are sensitive so. 😵😜 so can I dial in some pantera, Metallica and cannibal corpse kinda chug distortion’s ? Do reply. Btw you’re an amazing player man \M/ cheers 👋

    I hated it when it came out, but, if you run it right (amp, guitar, player) it easily does classic Judas Priest. It takes the place of a eq pedal, distortion, treble boost....does that by itself. The concentric pots are very tricky to adjust and super sensative. With some reverb and delay it can NAIL the Judas Priest tone on 'Unleashed in the East' 🤘

    For context I have a spare practice amp, a Fender 15 watt and I throw this into the front end and it sounds pretty brutal, of course my Marshall Valvestate 8100 definitely does sounds better but this can nail some 90s DM and BM stuff, the trick is in setting the mids to max and messing with the mid freq until it sounds good, then pulling some of the mids back (but not below 12 'o' clock).

    If you think it sucks then turn the valve amp down so it’s cleaner. Also if you think it’s suppose to go in the fx loop, then get another distortion pedal, and put that in front of the metal zone pedal while in the fx loop, then see if you like it. Haha.

    @@PatPosse I wasn't saying it wasn't, but these pedals have a bad rep with some amps. its probably because like others, when I first got mine, I was a child, and thought everything should be cranked up. didn't really understand the process of getting great tones. It came with years of experience. When I first used the original pedal, it was into a 15 watt fender amp which came with a squire strat and I thought it was okay. that amp and guitar got stolen, (thank god) and as a replacement, my nan got me a vester maniac which I still own today. Also got me a vox ac15 which sadly got stolen later in life. When I plugged the pedal into the vox ac15, the pedal sounded really crap. I didn't like the tones I were getting and so sold the pedal and got this boss mulifx instead. move on 3 decades, and I own the vox ac30 and also the metal zone waza, and I like putting it in front of the amp. In some amps It will sound good, in others, it depends, especially with valve amps. The vox on a clean sound with no distortion, running clean, the pedal sounds amazing, can also get some decent tones with little valve distortion and some pedal distortion. on the boss katana power amp only mode, the metal zone sounds metal as hell, and its very easy to get a great tone from it. we as artists should always try break the rules.

    Hi there. The video is aimed at what most beginners do and the fact that most people never even try going in the fx loop… we can all sit there and spend hours dialing it in until it sounds good but that was not the point of this video at all. It’s about the fact that it’ll sound better faster through the fx loop. If you dialed it down and the pedal sounds great for you, chances are you are not watching this video 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣. This is a last resort video for people who have tried everything and still think it sucks...

    Hi Adam, sorry about that! I completely understand what you mean, definitely not my best work. I had never edited a video before I started this channel less than two years ago and I think I've gotten a lot better at it since editing this particular video a year ago. I was editing on my 2009 iMac that couldn't really handle the task and I was focussing on pumping out content. I would love to re visit this pedal in the future at the new place with newer and better equipment down the line hoping the channel grows. Thanks for the feedback. If possible, please check out a newer video and let me know if you think this issue has gotten better. Cheers!

    @@adambishop5739 Hey man, no worries! I do get what you mean and I always favor content over tone when it comes to criticism. Also, the way I see it, I can lash out or get pissed and miss the point completely or actually take my time to analyze it and use it to my advantage. BTW I mean this in general, though your comment was blunt, I found it in no way disrespectful. You even went out of your way to say you weren't hating on me. I appreciated that... And I actually agree. This and the DS-1 Boss Pedal video are my most popular videos and I think my channel would have grown more had there been better edited. Now I upload 1-2 videos a week as supposed to the mandatory 3 a week I was uploading then. It gives me more time to prep them and edit them. Here's a link of a newer one, I've just moved away from the city to save money and really pursue the KZread thing so things are still not optimal (layout, lighting, etc) but at least you can see I put more time into editing.
