How to NEW Smooth Transition | After Effects Advanced Tutorial | Actual Seamless

Фильм және анимация

Let me know if you have any questions on this technique. I am aware of the technicalities and difficulties. There are plenty of workarounds, just let me know and I can point you in the right direction.
In my opinion, transitions are tastefully used when they bridge scenes/chapters of the story. For instance, on a small scale, from one establishing wide shot into up close on the subject.
Obviously the highest use case of a transition like this is for wow factor. Not my favorite use, but it still wows me.
______________________________________________________
Yes, this is the same concept of transition as Sam Kolder. But I found Kolders method too long and inefficient. For example, this video was made in nearly real time. Took me roughly 25 mins to do this from the ground up. But this was a convenient couple of clips, I've also done much longer and harder to blend segments.
Use your imagination and link me examples of your own. I want to see more of this technique.
I'm all self taught, you can do this too.
Motion blur ties most of these transition together. I use RSMB, a motion blur plugin.

    Since I haven't touched after effects in a while, I don't remember the terminology. iirc, when you keyframe the nulls position you can transform the path and ease the animation. The Internet says Ctrl+Shift+H hides and reveals transform guides.

  • @Harzratten

    @Harzratten

    Hi Joshua, Thank you for the great tutorial. It helps a lot. The problem matohurban and even me have is to grab the handle bars of the null object to smooth out the animation. (as you do in your video) But they are not shown in the composition. One had to turn the motion path from directional into bezier. And I wonder if it`s an adjustment in general or some hotkeys to press. Maybe you can remember. Have a great day 🙂@@joshualum

  • @Harzratten

    @Harzratten

    Now I got it. You have to right click on a keyframe in the canvas. And in the now opening menu you can choose interpolation. Now you have the handle bars. 😉@@joshualum

    Still, nothing beats the original Sam Kolder version. But this is a nice method when tracking to the 2nd clip is less important. I wouldn't have used that whoosh because it didn't seem to fit with the smooth nature of the transition.

  • @joshualum

    @joshualum

    2 жыл бұрын

    What about his is better than this one? Yeah perhaps I could have found a smoother sound to accompany the motion. But I do think it still needs a sound.

  • @spearcy

    @spearcy

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@joshualum The thing I like about Kolder’s is that his reveal used the wave and not the sky to reveal the new background. The bounce of the wave rather than the whiteness of the sky made it more of a movement based (as opposed to color based) transition, which I thought was pretty cool for that kind of scene combo. It was also more natural, the way the new background appeared as the wave dropped than with the wave and flowers, IMHO.

  • @joshualum

    @joshualum

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@spearcy ah gotcha. No yeah, I agree, his is more appealing. The technique is the same though. Its only a difference in footage. Which is hopefully an understanding that comes with explaining this concept. But yeah, 100% agree that if I had two different clips, more motivated by movement, it would look better. Thanks for caring!
