How to name Sulfonamides in easy way
Sulfonamides are the analogues of PABA thereby they compete with it and inhibit the folic acid synthesis. Sulfanilamide is a simple sulfonamide and can be named as 4-aminobenzenesulofnamide. But this compound is not useful as drug as it forms crystal in urine due to its pka value around 10.6. This can be minimized by structural modifications of sulfanilamide where the nitrogen of sulfonamide is substituted with heterocyclic rings to bring the pKa nearer to the pH of urine.

Thank you so much for this!! Can you please make more videos on nomenclature. It would be really helpful.
in N-[4-(aminophenyl)sulfonyl]ethanamide The 4 is in the bracket not outside, so it is N-[(4-aminophenyl)sulfonyl]ethanamide
Thank you so much sir

I am confused how sulfonamide has pKa value of 10.6 and be a weak acid?

lower the pKa value, stronger the acid
