    Another great video! Might I suggest a power strip surge protector behind the TV? Although since this video is a year old, you might have already added one. Great job and great vids, keep them comin!

    I love that you can pull the TV out like that. Curious if I already have a wall mount, but wanted to replace with something like yours if I would have to drill new holes...🤷‍♂️

    Hi Ben, this is the manufacture of this mount! We are going to launch a new mount for 42-70" TVs, if you are interested, contact us by clicking my profile, we would like to send you one for test.

    You may be able to use the top two holes, but you’ll likely need to redrill the bottom ones. But it’s worth it. I will never buy another straight mount.

    Might I suggest using a Keystone faceplate and jacks for the audio/video cables. This is done with network cables all the time. The reasoning is that, if a cable end goes bad over time from adjusting the TV, you'll only have to replace the 3ft cable to the faceplate. The current setup, you'll have to run a new cable the entire length to the device.

    The cost difference between 3-foot and 12-foot HDMI cables is negligible. I prefer to use single cables for fewer points of failure.

    Can you put anything on the soundbar to protect it from the heat that comes off the fireplace? What would you recommend

    I recommend a mantle to deflect the heat if you’re going to put a TV above a fireplace.

    Hi handydad, great video. I notice u did not use tape or thinset mortar on the joints of your cement board. Just wanted to know if it’s ok to do it without sealing the joints.

  • @handydadtv

    Depends on the stone you are using and if you are grouting it. I wasn’t grouting so nothing will crack if the corner joints move.

    @@handydadtv thanks for the response. I’m not grouting, I’m using MSI natural stack stone ledger panels... in your opinion, could I apply those ledger stones without applying mortar to the cement board? Thank u

    Hi HandyDad, I have a similar style gas fireplace, "cabinet style". I want to mount my tv above the fireplace but I dont think there are any studs. My stud finder is not picking anything up consistently, and it all sounds hollow when I knock. What are my options?

  • @handydadtv

    @handydadtv

    What kind of material is above the fireplace? Stud finders won’t work through some surfaces. Can you poke a hole in the side to see what you’re dealing with?

    @@handydadtv I'm guessing drywall like the rest of the house. I will have to do a small cutout to look inside as a next step.

    @@handydadtv I drilled a hole in the side with a hole saw. I can see that there are a couple metal studs and no wood studs. It is a hollow metal-framed drywall box, with the fireplace exhaust pipe vented out the ceiling. With a doorknob sized hole on one side :)
