yeah akebon BBK is essential with these cars, itll make the z go from notorious brake fade, smashing into the nearest tire bank you can find, to tapping the breaks and throwing your passengers through the windsheild in no time flat. bitch will stop on a dime and give you 9 cents back.

The Z32 300ZX was my dream car growing up, and I finally got one a few years back. Some thoughts: The NA may be "slow" but it is still incredibly fun, compliant, and luxurious. You will never win a drag race, but you will have a smile on your face as your twist around turns with the t-tops open. The 2+2 gets crapped on, but fun fact: the 2+2 was the model used for all the Z32's award-winning racing due to its 51/49 weight distribution. Plus it makes the car a usable daily where you can actually fit things in the trunk, by folding the rear seats down. The engine bay SUCKS to work in, just as much as you've heard. It's mechanically easier to replace the intake with a cone filter than it is to change the stock filters. I wish I was joking. The car is heavy. It's not a drift missile and it's easy to put the rear end out. Treat it like a GT car that handles turns with precision but not with the carefree sliding glee of a BRZ/240SX unless you're an expert. You really do have to keep these things expertly maintained. If you don't have both knowhow + time or money + care, don't get one. That said, one that has been taken care of is reliable. I have never once had a mechanical issue on the Z besides one bad pulley at 115k miles. And many Z owners take their cars up to 200k miles. I have heard nightmares about turbos failing, so I consider the TT to be less reliable. This car's design is TIMELESS and you will have people asking you "What is that thing?!?" thinking you own some modern year supercar or some super-Supra they never heard of. These will never age badly. I'm sure in 20 years when people are EV-swapping them, they will feel just as natural as electrics because they look like spaceships already. TL;DR: The car is a pain in the ass in some ways but it MORE than lives up to its reputation. There's a reason it made Car and Driver's "Best 25 cars ever made" list TEN YEARS IN A ROW.

I own a 1995 na for years now and it has been my daily and has never left me stranded and super reliable. I do agree with the maintenance part lol. I had to change quite a few worn out suspension components as is an old car and no matter how good was taken care of, if you going to buy one, know already that you will sooner or later going to change something. Is a price to pay, but nothing beats the look and fun of the 300zx.

I’ve had my 1990 300zx for 2.5 years now and I bought it as an 18 yr old (my first car). As an absolute AMATEUR who was obsessed with this car I got it knowing the consequences. This car has definitely bent me over the past two years, costing me a few thousand in maintenance. But now I have a fantastic and reliable Z. I’ve learned a lot through this car but if you’re young and inexperienced you may want to steer clear. That being said my car is COMPLETELY stock still after 2.5 years and I’ve been dreaming of doing coils, wheels, tires, etc but as a broke college student all of my cash is saved for when I eventually have to fix something. Be smart and be careful. I love my car so much and have zero regrets. Big plans this summer when I throw some serious money into it.

I've owned two of these cars - an NA and a TT. IMO the NA is still very fun and feels a lot quicker than 222 hp (and with an HKS dual exhaust sounds great). The NA was very reliable and, besides a clutch slave cylinder going out, didn't give me any problems at all over a year and a half. The TT was way more problem filled and just never seemed to run 100% right. These cars have a lot of little hoses that like to crack due to the heat of the cramped engine bay so use a smoke machine it helps..it was quick though! My car had a 1 piece driveshaft, slightly bigger turbos, injectors, exhaust and a tune.

The video I was waiting for haha, after watching the video I can agree that if you don’t treat the car correctly it’s gonna be a PITA, but it’s a good platform, probably not as agile as a S chassis but still can be drifted or track and a robust motor, but if you aren’t too experienced with mechanic work you should probably look for a specialist of the platform, since it’s king of tricky the engine bay

I own 3 twin turbos. Some advice. Don’t buy one unless you love it. Great cars but they are very expensive to get sorted. I spent 2k just replacing trim alone. Also you pretty much have to pull the motor on these cars anyway so might as well reseal it with a new wiring harness, 120k kit and rear main seal. And yes they are reliable, just alot of them are beat so you are spending quite a bit bringing them back to its glory days.

@6:31 no hate, but the na and tt motors. vg30de and vg30dett. are EXACTLY the same internally, other then pistons, wrist pins, oil squirters and exhaust valves. everything else is identical. auto and 5 speed had dif cam lobe profiles. the 5 speed being the more aggressive of the two. on a saftey side however, the TT did have the external oil cooler which does help drastically in attempting to maintain reliability on these cars esp with the increase temps of the tt version, compared to the na which did not have this feature. but both motors are built equally as stout. again no hate, i love the channel! and love anything Z32! keep rocking hommie! p.s. everything else, was DEAD on POINT!

Sorry if I missed it but I’d add “upgrade your exhaust manifold studs” especially if you have a twin turbo. It’s a good bit of weight hanging at a funky angle. If you want to make it easier to work on put in a vortec v6 with a carb swap, can even do a blow through carb if you want to twin turbo it again.

I am looking at getting one of these and put a VQ37VHR(these motors are dirt cheap asf rn $1000-1500 for a 350hp NA) it already bolts up to a CD009 and the engine bay is wide enough to where you can add stock R35 GTR turbos unto the VQ. Only thing I am worried about is if the hood will close because the VQ is a very tall motor. I reckon I can get everything done with a standalone doing all the work myself for $12-15k.

if you want one of these, its much cheaper to get an NA manual then TT swap because you won’t have to delete the hicas on the TT model. Also get in touch with someone who knows these cars, MAINTENANCE costs a lot with these since they’re from the 90s, NISSAN and the part vendors tax is insane nowadays. GET ONE NOW BEFORE they go up to like 30k like the rx7 fd, nobody wanted to work on 13b either back then but look how much those worth now.

I have had 2 300zx and my current one is a TT w/ 130k miles. Love ya Alex, but theres so much misinformation on this video. Also, the NAs are just as strong as the TT. So just boost the NA, you can hold 700whp on a NA-TT if you have a decent tune.

The non turbo had more compression hence it being more stout than the turbo version, many people get a non turbo to turbo it so it can safely candle 600hp on stock internals. The twin turbo is only a matter of how good your tuner is🫣

I love my z32 TT. And they're not that bad to work on... No it's not the engine bay of 70s pickup you can climb into but it's not nearly as cramped as a modern mini van either.

Some of these facts are just wrong lol. We don't have Subaru problems like headgaskets lol. Our problems are mostly electronics and wiring like any 30 year old car. Or pretty much like any Nissan usually it's cas related stuff. You don't have to pay that much for one of these NA range is 6k-10k TT is 20-25k. The bubble is going down. Of course the community is trying to push it back up but it doesn't seem like it's going to thankfully. The NA weighs 3200ish The turbo weights 3400ish So it's not that heavy. Lighter than an r34 and mk4 supra and nobody calls them heavy. Brakes are fine. Same brakes are used on the skylines lol. The NA and TT blocks have the same potential. Rods are the weakpoint. Other than that plenty of people in this community have turbo'd their NA with good results. Highest hp was 793 I think. Look out for rust damage near the rockers, battery tray, and t tops. Happy hunting!
