How does this not have more likes! This series is EXACTLY what I have been looking for to level up my vocal recording and mixing game in LPX! I am today years old when I realized I had been using the vocal comping the wrong way for years 😅 I know this is several months old, but a quick question: When you are doing your final mixes, do you bus all instrument groups? i.e. vocal to an acapella group like you did here, and then all drums to a bus, all keys to a bus, all guitars to a bus etc? Or do you do 1 Vox 1 Music? Would love to send in the current song I am applying these tips to, y'all still accepting those? Also, hello from a fellow Nashvillian 🙂

This Christmas my family got me a decent microphone because they know I like to dabble in music. I have to say of all the videos I’ve watched on how to use logic Pro. This is by far the best between your recording and mixing series. It was a little tough to find things in logic Pro, but nothing that I couldn’t work out with a little Google. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. I had so little idea what you could do with vocals beyond just raw recording!!!

This is exactly the type of video I always hope to find but usually never do. It's made me totally reassess my current workflow and it feels like no stone is unturned. I've usually used melodyne to polish up any vocals but think I'm going to use flex pitch and get to the bottom of what can be achieved with it. Also using so many sends per track is something I'd never really tried so thank you. I know for a fact that this video is going to be a staple in my vocal mixing technique. Everything suggested is so clearly explained. Magic.

This is so in-depth and amazing! Love the detail you put into every part of the process! I’ve been working on an original and would love to hear your thoughts! I often find my bounces are quieter than the professionally produced tracks. Would this be due to lack of compressors or incorrect bouncing? Also the process of auto pitching and rhythm adjustment are such powerful tools! Thanks for this awesome video! I’d love to send you through one of my songs to see what your advice would be

So, someone might have commented on this before, I don't know. =) But the "strange cutting" in the take folder you mention at about 5:26 in this clip is because you cut off the "top folder" (showing the comp) when putting that first line there. BUT this can easily be saved. Just like you did, you first drag the top track back - and then you click the three little boxes next to the "A". That then becomes a pair of scissors and now you can drag the start of all takes in the take folder. With the "pair of scissors" showing every take in the take folder also can be adjusted in time, clip gained and so on - just like a normal audio region you could say. Then just hit the scissor-cymbol and it returns to the three boxes for comping again. Hope that helped someone =)

It is so helpful to watch you work through the entire process. Thank you so much for making this amazing video!! Question: When you are comp swiping you are able to hit some shortcut and start the song from the same exact playhead position you started with as you move through the different comps in the song. What is the shortcut you are using to start the playhead from the same place again? UPDATE: Figured it out. For others who are curious, right-click or ctrl-click on 'Play' in the Transport Bar, and select "Play From Last Locate Position". This allows you to cycle through sections of the song without the pain in the a$$ of painting a cycle range every time. Now you simply set the playhead, press the spacebar to listen, then press the spacebar to stop; when you press the spacebar again it will automatically start playback from where you initially placed the playhead instead of continuing to play from where you paused. Total gamechanger.

This is great stuff Seth, really intuitive keep these coming. not clear on how you get all those amazing tweaks. That would be a good video to watch. where and how you get this or that. cuz frankly you clip along fast but we have no idea what to click on to get this or that. I guess with time and patience we all will be flying along like Mr. Mosley. Another reason I will rewatch this, is that your voice seams quite common and somewhat uneventful on the first take without any warmup but as you progress you can clearly see where it improves through repetition aswell as the improvement through tuning and treatment of the track. Your suggestions for multi-takes and then comping is brilliant! it quickly turns into an exciting video. witnessing it come to life as you add texture and subtle treatments it grows and blooms, quite amazing actually. No offence but like most of us, you were not blessed with a great God given talent for sining I mean your good enough but not Fredy. however, whatever you lack in natural talent you certainly make up in spades in your Mixing and Production skills, Bravo! No offence but your first take was lack luster and monotone at best but your last mix was kick ass and made my heart go thumpity thump.. .huge difference! Seth huge! ==Donald Trump Voice== Your finished product sounds like the work of a perfectionist without the loss of natural tone & grit and all the chops of a true great vocalist. Frankly I am delighted that this can be done so seamlessly. Gives us hopelessly average vocalists inspiration in our future. also learning these skills is clearly an asset when you are a musician. However I think in the grander scheam of things, I would much rather have you work on my album once I have it written and tracked, I don't have the luxury of time to learn all those fine details and there seams to be a lot of them. One thing you have definitely convinced me of is that, Leaving the final mixing to a Pro like yourself is clearly a no brainer, hope your available in 6 months or so? A Grammy sure would look good over the fire place. Thank You for all this its truly indispensable knowledge. Thom.
