    Getting phrasing on point is quite different I suppose. On the DDJ400 with rekordbox I line them up as you can see on the waveforms that are on top of each other. On the CDJs it looks much harder?

  • @juandavidninokruh5378

    @juandavidninokruh5378

    7 ай бұрын

    You can use hot cues to make that easier and you can also see the full waveform of the songs on the bottom of the CDJ screen, so maybe you don't have a waverform on top of another, but you still know at wich point of your track you're at. You can try mixing that way con your DDJ400. Just select the browse option in Rekordbox (instead of, for example, the 2-deck horizontal) and you can try it out.

    I have question, why hard techno and techno peak time is really hard to harmonically mix the tracks with each other because I listen to psytrance and I find that the DJs can harmonically the tracks without any issues🙄

  • @klubstompers

    @klubstompers

    7 ай бұрын

    Because techno has a huge variation of kicks, in different keys, some long some tight, sometimes multiple kicks together, while most all psytrance kicks are similar and are A-tonal, meaning they do not have a key, making it easier to transition from track to track. When you hear a psytrance kick you immediately know it's a psytrance kick, while techno on the other hand is way to diverse to single out so easily, and is usually only given away by it's hi-hat patterns. Another reason is that techno is such a broad genre, that has massive variations of sounds and styles.

  • @klubstompers

    @klubstompers

    7 ай бұрын

    @@kahs1180 You need a huge library of tracks so you can find something that fits, and a large variety of transition skills. Some mixes are long, some are short, some are teased in, some are brought directly in, etc. A good skill to learn is hi-pass filtering the old track before u bring in the new bass line, anywhere from 8-32 beats before the drop, to make the transition sound better when going from one bass line to the next if they don't compliment each other. Another good thing to do is wait for one melody to end before u bring in the new tracks melody. Give it 16 or so beats of no melody before the new melody drops. Dont try to mix 2 melodies or vocals together unless they sound really good together. You can try pre looping your new track to get a solid beat match if you want to bring in the track from the first beat, so you dont hear the track being shuffled in the mix. You can also put a 4 beat loop on the old track near the end of your mix, to make sure your drops line up, if you need it. Don't give up on techno, it is super fun, when you nail the mixes, and will learn a lot when working out mixes and sets.

    This may sound very dumb, but it's a question I've had for a few days - mixes like the one in the video are prepeared beforehand, correct? That is, you dedicate days or weeks picking out your tunes, polishing your transitions or do you just go in raw and shape it up as you go? I'm really fascinated by DJing & all the mixing that goes on so I receny decided to get into it myself x)

    Majority of the time a set list will be curated for performances where the stakes are a little bit higher: a live club set, a set for a video, etc. Usually these curated set lists are ordered by the energy of each song. You start with more mellow songs at the beginning to get everyone warmed up, drop the bangers in the middle once people have had a few drinks and loosened those muscles, and close out with some more mellow songs to cool people down, or more bangers if the crowd is raging and dancing hard. You know when a DJ closed out with bangers when the crowd is going "ONE MORE! ONE MORE! PLEASE! CMON ONE MORE!" Though there are some DJs (Laidback Luke comes to mind) that just play based off of crowd reactions to the music being played. Generally, as you search for and download songs you'll have an idea of which other songs in your library they would sound good with, making it easier to simply freestyle down the library or create a set list if you wish to.
