    Thank you, this helped me a lot. When i was a very small boy I used to work “hose duty” for my grandpa; he was an ace at making sidewalks at home. He used this same method with the wheelbarrow, hose and hoe, but I guess the ingredients are easier today. Back then he used I think 2 parts sand / 1 part Sakrete and it was a bit more difficult to get the mixture just right. But he nailed it every time. Now it’s my turn and decades later I needed a refresher course - so THANK YOU ! Great video. Now I have to go make my back door ledge.

    Ok, we know its not the perfect way to mix, oh and a slump test was not carried out ! BUT I have a bad back partly due to mixing barrowloads of concrete etc. Using a garden hoe ( I believe in other countries you can get the proper tool) keeps my body upright and pressure of my lower back and leading leg hip joint. this stops me from being laid up for a week after mixing a barrowload. Well done mate.

    I learned this technique from my Mexican helpers, who I figure are the real pros.. The only thing different was they'd slice the bags across the middle, flip it over and pick up the ends, very easy and less to lift. Later, I took a hoe with a busted off handle and rounded off the corners. Easier to pull/push and cleans out the dry corners better.

    In theory you want to distribute the specified amount of water the manufacture recommends to the volume of concrete in the bag and the best way to do this is to spread the concrete out amongst the largest flat surface area that you can or distribute it evenly in multiple concrete troughs or mud pans and then distributing the water evenly amongst the large surface area and then less mixing will be needed, then you can place the concrete to where it needs to be directly from the mixing troughs.

    Concrete with TOO LITTLE water will not be fully reacted. Concrete with LESS water will make a a stronger concrete but less workable because it's much harder to shape it and get it into forms. Concrete with MORE water, is easier to work with at a cost for some strength. Concrete with TOO MUCH water will cause more pores in the concrete, and wont bind the aggregate to the cement paste properly, making it really weak

    This is not how you mix concrete by hand. Adding to much water weakens the cement. Use the recommended amount of water. Usually 3 quarts per 80 lbs bag. "Pretty much like cooking". Follow the recipe and you'll get good results.

  • @Alecw51

    @Alecw51

    Ariel Luna I’ve never had the recommended amount of water work for me. I always have dry mix that I can’t even work with. If a 60 pound bag suggests 2 quarts to a maximum of 3-1/2 quarts, I will start with 2 quarts. Then I will use the misting or cone spray function of my garden hose nozzle to spray water over the entire tube for a few seconds. Then mix for a few minutes and if necessary mist a little bit more water.
