You can choose more muted versions, like burgundy and rust instead of bright red and orange.

I think it also depends on the kind of outfit, like in western wear red and orange especially bright red and orange might look a bit much, but red and orange dont' look out of placevwhen you're wearing indian ethic wear. I have worn red and orange salwar kameez to the office several times and it's pretty standard

Imo, opposite colors never looked good unless they are incorporated within the material in the article one is wearing. A green top with red dots combined with red pants or green pants, yes...... but never a solid opposite color separates at once. That looks garish. 02:00
