    It never occurred to me to tape them up, I just use cardboard on posts and boards but always end up with a couple of posts with paint picked up from the cardboard where it gets wet and I forgot to wipe clean. Will try tape this weekend. Cheers

    I do same but I just the fence up from the kick board and put a block under in and if I do get odd bit on post just rub it off with sand paper I do 22 panels every 3 years so not really time to be taping up lol

    Also even with spraying you still need to backbrush it to work it into the grain.sawn timber is too porous to just spray!it will just sit on the surface!and alot of fence paint e.g cuprinol ducksback is to thick to spray coz of the wax content and diluting is defeating the object of water repellent paint 😀

    No need for all this masking anymore. Check out Fenceprotector based in Llandudno, N Wales. They do a great hard plastic kit that just slides down onto the concrete posts and panels that slide under the panel to protect the base. Just move it along the fence as you go. Saves a lot of time. Wash it clean in soapy water when finished.

  • @JoeProDecor

    @JoeProDecor

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes I know all about that kit... I designed and made a full kit 20 year's ago.... But did not continue due to already similar pending patents. Tbh... A lot of sprayers now are just spraying the posts and fencing in the same material, like I ended up doing after this demo. It also looks better imo, and means you can protect the whole lot in a longer lasting product. I was also going off the idea as time went on tbh, as I didn't see the product taking off too well after doing extensive surveys... Just not enough time saving in using them to justify the cost to most DIY painter's.... It would save me minutes when spraying... But spraying alone would save me hours. And I found that using these Did not work as effectively as tape when spraying. Cheers, Joe

  • @JoeProDecor

    @JoeProDecor

    Would it not be easier to take the fence posts out and paint them? I guess it depends on how heavy they are and what is on the other side of the fence!

    The posts are concreted in so no chance....this demo is to show how it can be done in situ, including panels, and is for people that dont have the pysical strength to remove them. I personally take the panels out and spray them unless the posts and bases are being sprayed also.....which is what i did on these, the video is slso on here. Thanks, Joe

  • @JoeProDecor

    I agree, it is a bit of a faff masking up....but removing 5 and 6ft panels on your own is also a faff, even more so putting them back in. So I prefer to spray the bases and posts also to prevent all the messing around. The other side is done the same way of course.

    Too much work? Try lifting a old damp 6x5 panels out of its post oh and make sure there’s no wind. Can always spot a DIY job. How about using concrete grey spray paint then there’s no need to mask up? That was a joke.
