How to Make Your Own Tufted Headboard
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Start to finish to make your own upholstered, tufted-style headboard. For more information on how we made this, check out my blog here: checkinginwithchelsea.com/video/diy-tufted-headboard/
We used a sheet of plywood, foam mattress topper, quilt batting, fabric, roofing nails, and button cover kits to create a budget-friendly headboard for a large, king-sized bed. The headboard is mounted on the wall once it's assembled together. Links below⬇️

Whoop! Thanks for the great review! :)
My wife and I made this over our holiday break. Turned out great! I went with screws instead and had no issues. We also went with a sheet set, planning on using the remaining material to make a frame on the floor of the bed, Total cost for the headboard was $121.

Hi I watched a few different tutorials and by far this one was easy to follow and the list of supplies made everything easier then easy! It did take a few hours to make and definitely a two person job. Soo happy with the out come of my new headboard. So beautiful
This is really helpful as I want to re-cover and up cycle my existing plain headboard and make it a quilted one. I can see where I won’t need new materials etc and where j will! This was really clear and easy to understand! Thank you!
Loving your tip about using two layers of thinner foam so you can easily cut the foam vs. using the 3 inch more expensive type! Plus if you need to, a good old fashion electric knife cuts through the thicker foam if you need to.
YES!! Now all she needs is three matching frames with complimenting photos in that space above the headboard (or mirrors, whatever floats your boat) and floor to ceiling curtains on those windows to make the space look put together. That headboard made such a huge difference.
By far, the best tufted headboard tutorial I've seen.

How do I adapt this for a queen sized bed
So I added up all the materials from your list (just the materials, not the tools) and it comes out to $180 in materials to make this headboard for a king size bed to your dimensions. I have found multiple king size tufted headboards online for less than the cost of just the materials to make this thing...
Best headboard tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
Great work you guys! 😊 I have come across so many tutorials and this is far the best I've seen, thank you so much, now I can create a wonderful and luxuries looking headboard for my daughter and myself. God bless, and I hope you continue doing some more helpful tutorials like this one.
Try using deck nails, they are spiraled, will still go in sraight and will not pull out. Also my pet peeve in diy projects is, the back is never finished, at least, a cheap coat of paint and a strip of same fabric folded over, say 3 inches wide glued over raw edges on back to look like a finish binding, then it could be used anywhere for different projects. Fabulous idea, washers are genious and tufting due to washers is fabulous !!!

My mom and I do a lot of projects together now that I'm older, I just moved in to my new apartment just last Friday, and my husband and I never thought to have a headboard all these years until now. So I've been price checking around looking for the right price to buy one, and now that I've seen this, well let's just say I sent this link to my mom and I told her "look what I just found!! Beautiful created.
That’s awesome
I'm the 10,000th like! 😉 Which is ironic because I've been watching this video for months. Lol I keep watching to hype myself up to just make it already. They make it look so easy and I want a beautiful head board just like it. I just don't want to mess it up. Lol
I did this, but I used styrofoam, filler and blue velvet cloth. I glued the foam together on the ends to get the width I needed. I glued down the filler to the styrofoam, put the cloth over, used long pearl headed push pins so they easily slid into the foam. I then gently pulled the fabric taught and pinned it all around the back of the foam and glued it so it would stay. I have an adjustable frame so I just stuck it to the wall above the bed with 3M adhesive strips. Very light and easy to move. Took me less than 2 hours not including glue drying time. Its very elegant.
Wow, that is VERY impressive! Great job!

thanks SO SO much for this tutorial! i did it this weekend and it worked out almost perfectly. the only problem i had was with the nails, as they came loose again because my fabric was pretty thick and not elastic whatsoever 🤷🏻♀️🙈 i drilled some holes into the plywood and just used screws and nuts instead of nails. it looks so amazing, so thanks again 😍

wasn’t cheap, guess in total around $150.. the plywoood was like $25, i ordered some thick foam for around $45 and the fabric i chose was an additional $45. what kinda annoyed me were the price of the buttons, which was like $1 per button. if u‘d buy a cheap topper and donut like in the tutorial and get a cheaper fabric, different buttons, i guess you could do it for ~$60/70. on the other hand, i really really do love it. def gonna take it with me when i’m moving, everyone is asking me about it and complementing on it :)
