How to make your own RC boat parts: DIY rudder system without CNC tools.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I show how I make a new rudder system for my G-Force twin motor mono boat.
The rudder is made from aluminium and carbon fiber.
I used simple tools only, to show you don't need a CNC machine for making your own parts. You just need some patience and time ;)

Thanks! I have been offered a simple CNC router, but I fear it's too noisy for my workshop, which is connected to my neighbors! And as you might know, I like the old fashioned DIY method 😎
I've watched this channel for months now! Gave me the confidence to learn how to Mold carbon Fiber. So many great ideas here!

You can still do that. If I had a 3D printer, I would use it for making molds for carbon fiber parts 😎

Thank you, Dim! I enjoyed 95% of it 😅. The other 5% was for drilling the holes around the T-bracket contour, when I accidentally drilled off-center and when I cut my hand 😉

Another great video showing the old school ways of building. I have been following your channel for years and learned lots. Currently working on a boat and actually in need of a prop, so your timing is great for this giveaway. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 (FYI any of the props in your box look suitable for this 18 inch boat I am working on). Thanks and keep it up!

Thank you, I appreciate your feedback! For an 18 inch boat, you would need a 30-34mm prop I would guess. The props in my box are bigger than that, but if you win, I order a new prop to your needs 👍

I definitely would consult with you on what’s best, it’s a beautiful boat with a gearbox, just upgrading to brushless. The original prop simply isn’t going to be suitable since I am expecting to see higher rpms than the older brushed system. Our RC boat season is starting soon since we are just getting over 10c temperatures.
Congratulations on 2k subscribers! I love watching your videos on KZread. I have to admit you have inspired me to tackle a couple things I wouldn't have done on my own. Keep up the good work 😊

I absolutely agree! Much more satisfying. Although, it sometimes crosses my mind to just build up a boat with available hardware. That would reduce the build time from months to days 😅
That's awesome! Very cool of you, my boars are smaller so I tend to range in the 35-37mm range, but I'm still learning on props!

Good "old school" job! 👌That's how I like to work too. Now with 3D printers and stuff like that people slowly getting forget how to used their own hands to build something....

I could not tell if you use a jitterbug file on the aluminum they have course curved teeth and work excellent on aluminum with a drop of dish soap to keep from plugging to the file. I enjoy all of your videos
@CozyRC

Thanks for the advice! I had to look it up, because I didn't know that term. I used a finer mesh file, more for finishing than for coarse work. Those jitterbug files could have saved me some time. I will look into them! ✌️
Wow, your content is so good. I like it a lot. I would love the prop, with a diameter of: 35mm and a pitch of: 50mm.❤❤❤

Thanks for watching! Ok, got you. I'll pick the winner next week 👍
Congratulations with your 2k subscibers. Always wondered kind off how long some off these home made parts took. I know some things i do myself take lots off time and i wished it could go faster, but this is another level. I hope it holds up and doesn't bend or anything like that since all the hours you put into it. This is not totally unthinkable with the speeds we run... The prop (i haven't seen any reactions on that) would be in my case a ABC2016-10-50. And why? Because i haven't been lucky working the abc's, so stopped trying and run octura...

Thanks for your supports Peter. I hope the rudder will hold, too. I have good hopes. I hope to tune the boat better, so it will crash less, in the first place 😅. I got you on the prop. I'm not sure if I can supply a brand-specific one, but let's await the winner first! (next week).

@@CozyRC Besides the hopefully less crashing its also interesting to see if it makes a lot off difference in the handling. Could be i give it a shot on one off my boats if it changes significant...

@peteroosterhoff8850 I remember your twin mono has a huge turning radius. I'm not sure where your rudder is located, but if it is in front of the props, the turning radius is huge, as I noticed in my last run with a short rudder bracket. If so, I recommend to use a longer rudder bracket, setting the rudder behind the props. It will be a big difference!
@peteroosterhoff8850
28 күн бұрын
You remembered right! Its already made longer but still in front. Also believe its mostly due the hull shape because the single also doesn't turn very well and that has an offset rudder. But giving it a try never hurts. Also noticed some off the twins in KZread (like baby Raptor) have more square turnfins. I noticed on my twin that putting them straight up (closest to transom in "unnatural" angle) gave bit better turning but still hops and flips very easy when cornering.
Verry cool, if I win, it would be amazing, finger crossed 🤞. My 3D printed RC boat take a 2 blade prop of 35mm diameter and a pitch of 50 please sir !

Thank you Daiciu! Yes, this is my passion, as you know, and we share it together 😎. My goal is to setup the boat more stable at first, to prevent crashes and flips as much as possible. Then, let's go for some speed numbers 😎

@@CozyRC my thinking is that the slightly angled rudder blade will help keep the boat not to flips
@CozyRC
28 күн бұрын
@daiciuapostol79 Yes, I understand. But I fear that it will give unpredictable behavior at high speeds. When you turn a tilted rudder (steer the boat) it will lift the boat even more out the water. But for SAW that might be no problem. Let's see in your next run!
