Boom! I love it! I'm going to find a quick setting alternative to the hot glue so that I can use this with younger kids as well and still give them room to try and create it independently.

Glad I could help
I'm doing this for a school project and have gotten the straws and sealed it on one side with hot glue but I can't produce the sound you make. It sounds horrible. Is there a certain way I should be blowing?
@AubreySmalls
2 жыл бұрын
Try not to bend the straw at all and when you blow have half of your air go into the straw and half go out. Or try this put the straw up to your lips as if you’re about to blow, then slowly tip up the straws as you blow just like you’re drinking water and see if the sound gets better.
Thank you SO much!

My daughter's Science project is coming up. Thank you for saving me the pain of hit-'n-miss with getting the pitch sorted out. We don't have milkshake straws in South Africa, though, so we're going to have to use ordinary drinking straws. Here's hoping they'll work.

@@AubreySmalls Yes, we eventually found straws that are larger than the regular drinking straws - in a box of 2000! The project was assessed this past Monday; we don't have her grade yet, but she was quite positive about the assessment. Here's hoping the grade matches her optimism! Thank you, once again, for a fantastic video.

Thank you sir! But does this work on flexible straws or average size straws?
@AubreySmalls
Жыл бұрын
The concept is still the same so yes it will work. Smaller straws will be harder to get the sound to come out. For flexible straws your going to have to decide whether or not you’re going to have the flexible part pushed it or not, because it will change the pitch.

How do you find what notes to play?
@AubreySmalls

It all depends on what you’re trying to play. You can make it chromatic where you can play all of the notes, or you can just do the notes that you need. You can use a piano to get specific notes that you want.
