Good video. There are a lot of cases where you don't want to wait for the gasket, or it's entirely over-priced, or worse, you can't find it anywhere. Making your own comes in really handy.

Excellent video Tom two of my favourite tools in the shop are our set of hole punches (use hammer) and our leather hole punch (sometimes called a belt hole punch) with the rotating head with different sized hole punches and they are relatively cheap on Amazon like $16 Cdn.

Great Wayne, my punch set was WAY over priced, but I paid it thinking that because it was made in England it would be good. The punches didn’t even come sharp. Either way I couldn’t do without it!

@@VintageEngineRepairs I think Jake got ours on Amazon and they have extremely sharp cutting edges, when i go out to the shop i will check the brand name and reply in case someone reading this wants a good set.

Great video! I used to lightly tap around with a hammer to get the shape, but dirty thumb 👍 I like 😂 What could I use to make a new bung into the fuel tank where the two fuel lines go through? Mine is cracked and disintegrating 😬

Haha I’d replace it, but in a pinch, pull it out and wrap around the surface that mates with the tank using PTFE tape. Hope it helps! Regarding tapping with a hammer I agree on iron it’s fantastic, mag is quite brittle and chips, ask me how I know 🤣

Didn't think about getting a new one - I'll look into it. Tapping iron for the gasket was for an old BSA garden tractor engine - that was pretty strong!

Where to buy the Firefly gasket materials? Also hole punch sets if possible. Some applications might call for specific thicknesses per engine specs of torqued assemblies. Excellent video!! 👍

Hey Mark, I got it from my local automotive store, in Australia it’s called Supercheap. This paper was anything but cheap! They sold it to me half price on the end! With this said, this gasket paper is far superior to the “oil jointing paper” I got last time. Absolutely, yes regarding thickness. It’s a good idea to get an assortment pack of thicknesses :) thanks for watching!

I'm opposite of "down under" which I suppose puts me in the "up over".. in the USA.. 😎 I'll search both firefly and supercheap. We feel the same costly pain at the counter for things like this. Reality might be costing 1/10 for a manufacturer to produce but, we need it and they dictate pricing unfortunately!!

@VintageEngineRepairs thanks so much! I was searching for the spark arrestor on my stihl fs260c only to realise its nowhere to be found. But I did discover that there ws NO gasket in between the muffler. No clue why it wasn't there but perhaps the repair guy didn't replace it last time when fixing the piston

@@healthyrootsstrongwings538 there isn’t always a gasket between the cylinder and muffler on all models :) you’ll have to get the ipl to check if it’s present on yours.

@@healthyrootsstrongwings538 looks like there should be a gasket - part number 4147 149 0601 also your spark arrestor screen is a hex bolt on the exhaust. Take the hex bolt out and the spark arrestor will come out with it.
